In 1998 I saw an airworthy DC2 “Otis Spunkmeyer” but never seen one since.
Is this one or any others still flying?

A few pictures of the Dutch DC-2. I haven’t seen it flying recently.

“The only airworthy DC-2 in America was recently retired to the Museum of Flight in Seattle. It did fly for many years in Southern California, and that is probably the aircraft you saw.”
Possibly this one. I think I saw it at Salinas Airport in 98 (or possibly 2001).

I remember that DC-2 that flew over to the UK in 1998 along with the Constellation if I recall correctly? NC39165 is painted up to represent “PH-AJU” in Royal Dutch Airlines markings (the original being lost in an accident). That’s the one Archer refers to at Lelystad.

You might want to review your photos, I don’t believe that firm ever flew a DC–2.
They did have a C-41, which some have called a DC-2 variant, but it’s actually a DC-3.

Many years ago I was able to photograph many of the aircraft of the famous Johnson Air Service in Missoula, Montana….well know for their fire fighting efforts and operators of Ford’s and DC-2 &3s used for smoke jumpers…and I photographed what I thought, in my haste, was a DC-3.
When I had the slides developed, I was chagrined to see it was in fact a DC-2. Many years later, I saw the same ship at the now closed Douglas museum in California. That’s now in Seattle.

There is an airworthy one at Lelystad, The Netherlands, but I think it hasn’t flown much (if at all) for the past two years or so due to issues with money and crewing. Someone else will surely be along soon to correct me on this 😉
