Are We Alone?

OK – UFOs and aliens. Are we alone in this big ole universe?

For my money – no. There’s bound to be something out there. Never seen a UFO, but I’ve read just about every book under the sun on the subject. Absolutely fascinating.

What do the rest of you think?

I raised this question about 2 years ago on this forum and the thread still gets replies from time to time. The general opinion was that we are not alone. As someone once said “if there’s no other intelligent life out there it’s a hell of a waste of space”

Only reason for evil aliens is to
take Earth from us. Which is so cliche, I hope that’s not their
reason. Besides, they’ll have to pull earth from our cold, dead
hands… We’ll nuke it to cinders before we let them have it…. and
they know it.

I sincerely doubt ET gives a damn about Earth, or even this solar system. If he’s here, it’s because of us.

The US government has activly been involved in covering up
certain UFO related things. This is pretty clear.

There are only so many reasosn for this:

1. No aliens, just human technology that the government doesn’t
want people coming into contact with for any number of reasons.
It’s dangerousn, secret, or just government classified burocratic
BS.

2. No aliens, but the governmnet doesn’t want people messing with
thigns/looking into things, so they give an impression of secrecy, to
take the focus away from the thing they really want to keep secret.
It’s a hoax created for national security.. I doubt it.

3. Aliens, and the Governemnt doesn’t know what the heck is
going on. They are just as ni the dark as we are, except they knwo
they’re are aliens, and the aliens are interested in us, for unknown
reasons. The government doesn’t know what would happen if it
were “known”, and since they don’t know, for sure, they’re
keeping us in the dark.

4. Aliens, and the governmet’s got an idea as to what they’re up
to. This sounds bad, since if there were good aliens, I’m sure thery
woudl be more open about it. I can’t see aliens being “evil”. It just
doesn’t make too much sense. Only reason for evil aliens is to
take Earth from us. Which is so cliche, I hope that’s not their
reason. Besides, they’ll have to pull earth from our cold, dead
hands… We’ll nuke it to cinders before we let them have it…. and
they know it.

5. Aliens, and the governemnt’s working WITH them for
whatever reasons. Could be good or bad, especiall yif the aliens
are playing the government. Conspiracy theorists would love for
this to be true.

I’m thinking 1,2 or 3. I want to believe in aliens, as it’s cool. I
don’t think we’ll be able to travel far enough in my lifetime to find
intelligent life, so the only way for now is for it to come here.
Unfortunatly, nearly all alien stories are obviously made up, and the
mainstream alien abductee people are clearly kooks. They
certainly don’t contribute to the validity of the argument.

I would find it incredible if a life from another world manifested itself before I departed this world. There are questions you would like answered but you know you will never get the answers and I think this is the one I most likely would like answered.
With everything that has been produced throughout the ages by Hollywood, one begins to wonder how close they would be to reality, if such being really do exist. The rumors of Area 51 having the remnants of a lifeform from another world does bring a certain level of curiosity! Are they real or just the figment of imagination from a man who wanted his fifteen minutes of fame?
However, the best we can hope for is SETI and even than, I imagine the US government would quickly put a lid on such a discovery. It’s a shame really, I would really like to find out if they could be friendly or hellbent on our extinction!

I’m sure there is life off of the earth.

If you are 100% scientific, then it’s hard to believe that only on
earth did life originate and evolve. It seems infinitely impossible for
life to just be here.

If you are 100% religious, and ignore science, then it seems to be
rather odd that God limited his omnipotence and omnibenevelonce
and omnicience to just one little rock. If he bothered to miracle all
the stars in all the galaxies into tha vast reaches of space, why stop
with life at earth? You’d think that life elsewhere would be further
proof of God’s greatness.

Most people are somewhere in between, which means alien life
should be acceptable.

We don’t know what kind of alien life there is. We’ve come really
far in the past few hundred years. Once we found out how to
really use electricity, it only took about 100 years to get to the
moon. I doubt any aliens made it so far so quick, no matter how
advanced they are now!

We very well might be the most advanced, “highest” beings in
existance. In our thousands of years of space travel, we might
come across advancing civilizations, yet to reach space. Maybe
we’ll terraform worlds across the galaxy, never finding another
spacefaring civilization.

We might meet beings far more advanced than us, with technology
we simply cannot understand. They might consider us to be
insignificant vermin.

On the other hand, we could meet beings that are more advanced
technologically, in some ways, but behind us in others. Aliens that
figured out how to travel space, but never figured out the
microporcessor. Maybe advanced space faring scumbags, who
wish to enslave/eat us. We might be “better” than them…just can’t
tell.

I keep an open mind about things like this. But I suppose there might be other “beings” out there that have broken technological barriers that we have yet to discover.

This also ranks highly with things such as the yeti, Bigfoot et al. The world is a big place – there are plenty of places for an 8ft tall humanoid creature to hide in! Take a look at what the ocean surprises us with – the recent giant squid video. We’ve known about them for years, but I don’t think anyone had ever seen one alive before!

It’s possible, I suppose. Like Agent Mulder always said: The truth is out there!

Anyone ever seen the Jodie Foster film ‘Contact’? Makes a pretty strong argument for life elsewhere in the universe even if we have’nt connected with it yet……”Seems an awful waste of space….”

Hell no we’re not alone….it would be incredibly arrogant to think all of that out there was just for US……piffle.

I’d like to think that we’re not alone! However, the debate could go both ways and it will never be put to rest until we know for sure. I certainly would like to find out before I pass on! It would be neat to find out what they look like and if they are here to divide and conquer or to move us forward to a new level of technology and discovery!

Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown,
And things seem hard or tough,
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft,

And you feel that you’ve had quite eno-o-o-o-o-ough,

Just remember that you’re standing on a planet that’s evolving
And revolving at nine thousand miles an hour.
It’s orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it’s reckoned,
‘Round the sun that is the source of all our power.
Now the sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
Are moving at a million miles a day,
In the outer spiral arm, at fourteen thousand miles an hour,
Of a galaxy we call the Milky Way.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred million stars;
It’s a hundred thousand light-years side to side;
It bulges in the middle sixteen thousand light-years thick,
But out by us it’s just three thousand light-years wide.
We’re thirty thousand light-years from Galactic Central Point,
We go ’round every two hundred million years;
And our galaxy itself is one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.

Our universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,
In all of the directions it can whiz;
As fast as it can go, that’s the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute and that’s the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you’re feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth;
And pray that there’s intelligent life somewhere out there in space, ‘Cause there’s ****** all down here on Earth!

I thank you, good night

God bless Eric Idle.
Whilst were on the God subject, the Catholic Church have just admitted that there just maybe something out there. They quote John 10,verses 14-16.

Why does it have to be a carbon based humaiod lifeform that needs water and oxygen to survive?

I think it’s very arrogant of mankind to think that ‘we’ are the best that the universe has to offer for all these years, lets face it, in the grand scheme of things just on planet Earth, we are but an insignificant blip!

The universe is so huge, goes unlimetedly in each direction, i just can’t put into context in my mind – its impossilble for there not to be if you ask me,

ufos

hi ,im an amateur astronomer and military aicraft spotter.i regularly sit in back garden with my zeiss 10 * 50 binos, sweeping the sky over coventry.
on 3 or 4 occasions this summer ,i have caught sight(in my binos) of white glowing dots, travelling in a different direction to the wind.on 15 may this year,at around 5 pm,i saw a pinkish white crescent (looking north at an elevation of about 70^)it was tiny, even with 10 power, and moving slowly toward the zenith.as it flew overhead,it changed shape into a white ,vertical line, then changed to a small white dot.maybe 3 minutes had passed by this time, and i was leaning backwards in my chair to keep it in view.the object then started to dim for a second then go back to original brightness, then dim again the same as before!!(just like flashing, but the complete opposite!!).i can only conclude that the object was SELF-ILLUMINATED!!! i was by this time nearly falling backwards in my chair,so i decided to quickly turn my chair round to try to keep the object in view.bad mistake, never found it after!
no way was this object an aircraft or satellite,or weather balloon.just the way it changed colour and shape rule out easy explanations.
i truly feel that if more people regularly scan blue skies with binoculars, then more of these strange white dots will be seen.
thanks for your time reading this!!!
take care,phil

Well on the narrow minded thing, that’s not my problem, that’s the problem of the people living with me πŸ˜€
Yet, of course I do not rule out the possibility of things being more advanced than us. Of course not, I just forgot to mention that. That’s because of my narrow mind, I start thinking on one path, the one that enters my mind first and go further on that. And later on I forget to follow that other path next to it…
However, do you think they would pay us a visit and just let us do our thing? I don’t think so. You’ve nearly proven that now. You have more knowledge (or at least I think you do) than I have in this space travel thing. But you want to show that to me, you correct me and show me something. Wouldn’t the “other, vastly more advanced creature” do the same when it comes here? Trying to correct us or erase us, whatever it needs are. As a child you are also playing with Ant Nests and other tiny creatures, I think this sadistic nature might be in that other spacecreature too…
Just some thoughts though. Need to get some new atlas to find my other paths now.

Point taken and now you have followed the other path a little further allow me to say thank you for saying you think I’m more advanced on this topic than you. I fear the points you made about the possibilities of them toying with us if they did arrive are quite possible. The other side of the coin is that they may not have made contact as they find our civilisation too backward and unpredictable to risk contact with us.

That seems a very narrow minded view. If we are more advanced in space travel than some species then it is also possible that others are vastly more advanced than us. As I said when I raised this thread previously, I am convinced that compared with some we have achieved the spacefaring equivalent of the Wright Brothers or at best Louis Bleriot.

Scary thought isn’t it? Good job they have more sense than to get involved with us as they could take over very easily.

I think we’re not alone either. But I don’t believe the other guys are as advanced as us or at least not further then us. This could be perfectly possible. And of course they would be as stupid as us to go out and find us… It takes us a lot of effort to make a short leap to Mars, now how would these other guys find us? Maybe they’re trying to do just the same thing as us, making their short leap.

As everything seems to be repetitive, constellations, universe etc. I think there are just some groups larger than universes. I suppose something like Man in Black, the end of that movie… πŸ˜€

As for Steve, we don’t put light on our recon craft because we land or know the stuff that’s below them. If you’re going to another planet you’d like to know what’s beyond your feet don’t you? Wouldn’t like to land in water if you’re used to land on rocks… Or you’re trying to land on a good flat piece of land but then that little stupid piece of pointy rock protrudes your landing pillow. Of course they might have more advanced equipment to find out what’s below them given they have the technology to build something that can reach our planet. But, I don’t believe in UFOs πŸ˜€

I raised this one about 12 months ago and was amazed to get a response at all let alone the response I did get. The general concensus of opinion was that we are not alone. As someone put it:- Considering the size of the universe, if we’re alone, it’s a hell of a waste of space.

As long as you can put “we” and “alone in the same sentence then I guess not ?
