Are we fueling terrorism or combating it?

Just wanted peoples views on recent happenings in Libya and Afganistan.
I’m not a liberal. I believe that if there’s a threat we should nutralise it.
But I’m also a realist. It would appear out intervention in Iraq and Afganistan has fueled hatred of the west. I feel like we are heading towards a greater war and to some extent are to blame.
I look at it like this. In WW2 the French Resistance were not defeated. They were fighting for a common cause to rid Europe of Nazism. Now look at Afganistan. We are winning the battle but we will never win the war. The locals perceive us as the invader, aggresor. They will always win regardless of losses. Because to win they just have to survive. Every casualty we take, even if we kill 100 insurgents in retribution, will lead to political failure. Afganistan is our own vietnam.

I wish I had a £1.00. for everytime I have stated this, on this forum. We could be there a hundred years, and the day after we left, things would go back to normal, we should never have got involved in the first place, but as usual, we did.

Jim……..

Agree 100%. An unwinnable war, obvious to all but the politicians. Should never have gone anywhere near Iraq or Afganistan. Jim as you say we could be there for a 100 years with unlimited resources and we could not/would not win. We are wasting lives and resources. One has to wonder why we are waiting until 2014 to withdraw our troops: likely, another 200 or so will have been killed or seriously maimed.

What ever you thought of the rights and wrongs of the Falklands escapade at least there was the chance of an outcome, oh yes, and the Islanders actually wanted us there.
