Argosy +javelin repaint @ MAM.

Good Friday i took the kids to MAM (Midlands air museum) Coventry.
Under way was the repaint of the long time resident Argosy G-APRL . cracking job being done .
Also underway was the the repaint of the Gloster Javelin XA699.
looking at the speed of the work they should be all done by the end of the weekend . so if your at a loose end Bank holiday Monday. it may be worth a visit. Well done again to all at MAM for the hard work and time they lavish on the types at this museum.
i did take my expensive canon gear with me but upon using the camera
found i had not put the compact flash cards in the bag or camera. 😮 what a tit.
pics taken below with the wife’s Fuji S5600 that was in the glove box 🙂

WOW! What a superb job to both the Argosy and P.111A (by the way, it never was white, so I suspect that was just an undercoat for the yellow?).
Any update on the Javelin? What is next on the list to do…you must be on a roll….er?

Took some pictures of the Argosy myself the other day so might as well put them on for you all.

Malcolms busy as usual as you can see. Spent all afternoon today masking off the “Overnight Delivery System” and G-APRL reg on the booms, ready for painting.

Will take my camera again tomorrow and take some more shots for you all.

Enjoy;)

The Argosy looks much improved since my last visit 18 months or so ago. Well done all involved.

I must get ’round to popping over the museum again soon.

Showing the Argosy open at both ends. As you can see it makes for a good walk-through.

Much winding, puffing and similar to achieve this pic. Huge vote of thanks to the bloke(s) at MAM who got it all open. Got your breath back yet lads?

Following on from Martin’s comment about the Argosy’s interior, here’s a couple or three shots showing same.

  • three rows of pax seats now fitted.
  • Cockpit looking very smart.
  • General view looking fwd. Engine, posing as cargo, is a RR Dart, the jack is a general purpose unit. Stepladder accesses the cockpit.
  • The hold, now with the cargo nets fitted.

Would like to reinforce Martin’s comment that you should really get along and see this aiframe. With both cargo doors open it’s a genuine ‘walk-through’ experience.

Yes I know Im not good on the ole heights Rob. 🙁

Although be honest to the forumites I am getting better. Getting me to go on top of the Vulcan before Chrimbo was an achievement. Well I saw it as one anyway. :p

Depends what you mean by power up Peter. There’s no engines in the Argosy so……………..

But we do have the ability to run electrical power through her so the internal cargo bay lights work and there is also a radio in the cockpit which is usually tuned into Coventry Airports frequency.

The work done in the cargo area of the Argosy makes it a fantastic exhibit thats full of atmosphere well worth a trip to come and see.

The Argosy has been long overdue a repaint and compared to the length of time it took to do the Vulcan is coming on surprisingly quickly.

As you can see in the first piccy, our superb chief engineer, Malc, is looking at this time the extent of work that is required on the top of the aircraft and the logo on the side. When the wind blew slightly, for some reason he shouted me and I ended up painting the top of the aircraft and the high parts.

I often thought to myself while doing it, who was the stupid one………..:diablo:

Maybe you could say I was getting in the practise for when Victoria Lynne arrives cause as Martin doesn’t like heights I can see who will get the job of painting the high parts on our bird:rolleyes:

can’t beat a bit of banter eh Mart:dev2:

Once again I’m blown away by the never ending work carried out at MAM. What a fantastic setup! I wish I was a lot nearer, you’d never get me away from the place!

Major kudos to the guys at MAM – long may you continue!

The Argosy looks great now. After many years outside it needed some paint. I was there a few weeks ago when just some of the white areas had been done. With the other attention to detail of painting the engines and undercarriage it was looking good then but that picture above with the red done it looks even better.

Well done to all at the MAM with all of their exhibits.

Good to see the Argosy repaint is coming along nicely! Also nice to see the old Javelin getting some attention. Now if only you can send us some of your nice warm sunny weather as I look out the window at more snow!
