Two Panther VII powered prototypes were flown in 1933, followed by four Panther XIA powered production examples delivered to the Norwegian Army Air Force in 1936.
Additional information on the history and images of these aircraft would be greatly appreciated.

Yngwie

I found the negative. Here is the Scimitar in the scrap yard at Coley’s yard in 1958. From memory also in the yard at that time were Coastal Command Lancasters, a Fiesler Storch, many Hunters, the Blackburn YA-7(?) proto, Harvards and lots of experimental Farnborough items ….Hmmm.

Thank you for your replies Gentlemen,
I wonder what happened to the four aircraft delivered to the Norwegians though ?
It has been suggested to me that they were grounded soon after their service entry. Apparently because they were considered too dangerous to fly by their pilots.

According to the civil bible(AJ Jacksons ‘British civil aircraft since 1919, 1959 edition).
Their civil historys were
730hp Panther engine, redesign of Armsrtong Whitworth AW16 with lower front decking, two civil aircraft only
G-ACCD C/N AW.828 CofA issued 28/6/33 scraped 1936
G-ADBL c/n AW460 CofA issued 7/12/31 dismantled and ‘preserved’ at Whitley, broken up in RJ Coleys yard Hounslow 10/58
span 33ft,length 25ft,max speedd 217mph,cruise 185mph
Shame it was bot really preserved. Although you never know like the Gloster Gamecock G-ADIN somebody might find the manufacturers plate and rebuild one!

Well I remember seeing the remains of one of these Scimitars in the famous Coley’s scrap yard near Heathrow in the late 1950’s. I have some negatives somewhere. If only we had known……
