I am driving south to photograph a live fire excersise by the NZ Army tomorrow.
It is an evening and live fire demonstraion (LAVS, infantry, artillery and maybe Helicopters)
I have hired a nikon 80-200 F2.8 ED, a Tamron 2x converter, a monopod and a 4 gig card.
I also have my D70, a Sigma 105 and the Nikon Kit lens…
Any tips on how to approach this? Has anybody here done something similar before?
Will the monopod work for the night shoot or should i take my manfrotto tripod? (and maybe end up lugging it over hills?)
Any hints appreciated…

This would be out in the area where they shot the ‘Black Gates’ of Sauron’s realm for the LOTR trilogy, I’m guessing? Most of that sequence was shot on a ‘live fire’ area…..this the same one?
