Thanks Arjan, much appreciated.
It always astonishes me that when you get a group of Veterans together like that, even though none of them are younger than 85, when you hear them talk they are all 21 again.

Great pics my uncle Eddie was at Arnham with 2 para, shame he`s not here now. Just a few months before he died he did one last jump for charity what a guy.

Arjan.
What wonderful images, particularly those of the Veterans on the link you gave. The children standing by the graves is such a poignant image but also such a hopeful one. The obvious depth of feeling and respect with which the Airborne Veterans are held by the Dutch people is heartwarming. My fiancee’s Grandfather served in the 79th Armoured Division and he always says the Dutch people were the most friendly and welcoming.
Excellent stuff and if you have any more images please share them.

Maybe the para’s from the Dakota were reenactors (Pathfinders). The rest of the para’s were servicemen. There were para’s form at least: the US, Britain, the Netherlands and Germany. This year around 700 of them jumped. Yes, it’s an annual event. It’s always on the saturday of the Arnhem commemoration weekend (= weekend closest to the 17th of september).
The airshow during the afternoon was a one-off-event. It was (just over) 100 years ago that Jan Hilgers made the first powered flight in the Netherlands just north of Ede. He made a couple of hops in his Bleriot XI.

parachute drops
Who were the parachutist, military I suppose?
Looks like excellent weather for the event.
Is this event every year around those important Arnhem dates?

I was at Eindhoven, servicing the Dakota, that was a long day. Taxi at 7am (6am UK time) and finished back at Coningsby after Southport Airshow at 7pm. Impressive watching the jumpers loading at Eindhoven.
