Apologies for the spelling but as he’s up for governor of California, do you think one day you’ll have an Uzi 9mm toting president of the USA ?

The running man
Geforce,
Please explain to me the difference between Schwarzenegger (i’d love him to become Guv as might eventually learn a few people how to write his name. Or perhaps they should translate his name to English? Gouvernor Blacknigger sounds cool!) and Larry Flynt. Both started out as absolutely nothing, and both made very profitable careers with cheap physical entertainment. And while Arnie has been pushing a political career for years by showing up at Republican conventions and Oprah, Flynt has been putting a lot of work in freedom of speech issues.
Fun thing though, if you take a look at the cast of Predator…
Arnold Schwarzenegger runs for guv in California,
Jesse Ventura was governor of Minnesota
Sonny Landham (Billy, the Native American one) ran for guv in Arizona…

Phantom, I do read enough to know about California’s problem. I read about Davis and his bad decissions. I know California has problems with people moving towards other states because taxes are too high. I was not objecting to Arnie though, but Larry Flint.

Actually Garry, if you’d care to learn something, Arnold is actually in favor of gay rights. At least according to a huge write up about him in USA Today.Geforce I love your reactions to all of this. You actually think you know just who is and who is not qualified to be the governor of a state you will never live in and for that matter a country you have nothing to do with, at least in terms of citizenship.
I’ve done quite a bit of reading up on Arnold’s history, and he’s not the muscle-bound idiot you are trying to make him out to be.
He’s very intelligent, has a degree in business and international economics, has had a pretty good career not only as an actor but as a political activist as well.
All in all I’d say he’s pretty qualified for the job. The state of California is in dire need of some help, and in more than just one or two ways.
If it makes you feel any better Arnold is a bit more towards the left end of the Republican party, than many of your “favorite” Republicans here in the Sattes.
That’s one reason (in addition ot the obvious love he and his wife have for one another) I don’t feel his decision to run has had serious repercussions with his wife’s family, who were always a bit more towards the right side of the Democratic side anyway, at least compared to certain Democratic politicians I can think of….
Personally I’m hoping for Arnold Scwarzenegger (pardon the spelling) to win. That state needs some serious help….

Not a case of mayor of Springfield disease… “AHhh I have gauged public opinion and am flipflopping. I think all gays should have equal rights with everyone else and any previous quote from me is a lie!”
If he did flipflop I’d understand… I know which would be more damaging to his image (political and professional).

According to rumour he slept with quite a few directors and producers to get into the business…
Some things I really don’t want to know Garry. 😀

“Well it took another actor to finally defeat the USSR. “
Considering his acting talents and his political talents were about as weak as you can get I am pretty sure the problems the USSR was having had very little to do with Reagan.
“IMHO the world needs more leadership candidates who wern’t born with their noses up the political establishments ass.”
No, Arnie wasn’t born with his nose up anyones ass, but I would suggest that a muscle bound person (won’t call him an actor because he couldn’t at the time) who hardly spoke english got lots of breaks by letting someone else use his ass. According to rumour he slept with quite a few directors and producers to get into the business… they wouldn’t have said anything except for when Arnie stands up as a republican and spouts anti gay rhetoric… still hipocrates belong in politics don’t they?

Yes to a certain extent I think that heavily relying on migrant workers does nothing to boost your GNP. Yes, I think that if approached properly that a lot of those jobs could either be eliminated by technology or replaced with US citizens.

SOC WD , don’t you think that a bunch of Californian take a huge advantage of those illegal mexicans that they pay a couple of $ an hour to clean up their pools or fix their back yard?
I think those that use them as labor are just as responsible for the deterioration of the economy. Locking down the border to the illegal aliens or increasing the penalties for using them would curb this issue. Those millions of $$ are leaving our country not to be returned in trade thanks to the employment of those aliens. At least if they were taxed it would help offset the expense of impact in our health system.

So I’m guessing that “foreign labour” is as much an issue in California as it is in other parts of the world.
And presumably the Mexicans of this debate are the same as the Pakistanis, Turks, Algerians, Croats etc of the European current situation, just the same as the Irish, Scots, Poles, English, Italians, Spanish.. you name it, were in past generations and economic times ?
I agree that a formal system needs to be implemented to regulate the use of foreign nationals in the work force, I also think that making them nationals or temporary nationals I.E. taxpayers, is important too. The biggest problem I see is that they are willingly employed to do the types of jobs that knowone else wants to do and that’s a global problem that perhaps we should be looking at a bit more seriously.
If knowone else wants these jobs within your particular country, then why shouldn’t someone else have a chance ? Someone mentioned mobilising American teenagers to get some life skills and do some basic jobs for a while. Wouldn’t that be better for the country than some thing like compulsory military service or similar schemes ongoing around the world ?

You know , that’s not a Californian privilege. We have this illegal immigration of Algerian , Africans .
The Germans have to deal with turks , The Britons with pakistaneses etc.
I guess those people with their cheap labor contribute to the prosperity of our rich countries.
This prosperity appeals other people as the light appeals a butterfly.
The rich need the poor and vice et versa. I’m afraid that there is nothing we can do , and maybe we just have to limit this imigration and regaulate it.
Maybe this is also a part of capitalism.

You are absolutely right. There are those who take full advantage of “opportunities” such as these. From a capitalistic standpoint, they can’t really be faulted. But from a moral and legal standpoint, they should be prosecuted and held to the same standards as any other law-abiding corporation or employer.

and as stated above, those that took advantage of these illegals need to be prosecuted. What needs to be done is newer methods of allowing legalization for immigrants, but the bottom line is full documents must be provided. It is fair to say that part of the reason (only part, some of these recent arrivals have became rather arrogant…and that’s gonna hurt them in the long run) why the US economy was good and still relatively well (relative to countries like Japan and Germany) is due to hard working immigrants. And yes, they usually do do things most Americans don’t want. So, i say at the same time we need to mobilize American teenagers to start working earlier on low end jobs (it offers great living skills…ie, fixing stuffs and service people) and support homeless people to start over. What i don’t like is people like some of these Mexican politicians who comes to the US preaching about the plight of the Mexicans in the US…and i ask, do they have any SHAME at all? Why do Mexicans need to come to the US in the first place? Could it be extreme corruption in Mexico? Mexico has lots of land, hard working people, people with spending culture (to spur internal growth), natural resources (oil), great tourist spots….all of this read a country with strong economic potentials…and Mixtec is more critical of the US? I see the propaganda have worked well…
I totally agree Vortex …

Geforce…
by the way, the choices are a long list not the short list as you’ve stated. I don’t know if that’s just your ignorance about Californian politics or you are stressing that for your leftist propaganda…”look California only have these two choices and it’s the 4-5th largest economy in the world”. The Leutinant governor have just entered the race also….i don’t see how he can be separated from Davis. I’ll predict that the recall will be approved and the next governor is a woman…that’s a first for the state of California….the only leading choice for Republicans is actually Arnold since other ones are actually not well liked by the masses.
