Anyone know of any biographies of AE Hagg who is credited with the design of some de Havilland’s finest (Moth series, Flamingo, Albatross, Mossie) etc?
Did he fall out with de Havilland’s? He left, IIRC in 1943, ended up at Airspeed, designed the Ambassador (:)) and then left at the time that de Havilland’s become more entrenched there.

Stand corrected; my source was Don Middleton’s Airspeed book which also mentions Hagg as leaving his boatbuilding business in Shepperton on being appointed Technical Director of Airspeed after Hessal Tiltman’s departure.
Presumably he was still OK with de Havilland’s therefore. What happened to him after Airspeed?

Err, Arthur Hagg didn’t design the Flamingo or the Mossie, they were both R E Bishop.
He left DH in 1937 and “returned to the fold” at Airspeed in 1943.
Source amongst various other possibilities, the aforementioned “deeply dull” tome.

He seems to have ended up with a pretty low profile. He’s mentioned a bit in the various Airspeed books I have but no real insights
I’ve just finished Martin Sharp’s deeply dull de Havilland book with hardly a mention of him. Is he in any of the better de Havilland tomes?

Nothing at all in my little library!
Strangely, he doesn’t appear as an entry in “Who’s Who in Aviation History” by William H Longyard, although there are a number of other notable people missing from that book too.
Couldn’t find anything via Google on the web, either.
