Artice on Beeb website today….

I guess this might be broadening the horizons a little too far for this forum, but I’ll give it a go nontheless…..

I read THIS story on the bbc website and was amazed to have never heard about it before…not even by any of the special forces guys who would surely revel in this feat of endurance (no matter who they are). Besides the fact that the actual book may be fiction, if there were people who walked from Siberia to Iraq, via Iran (see readers comments) should there not be better recognition?

bit of tinder there…..your thoughts?

Sadly not, the copy I have is my dad’s and has same pseodonym. I remember the author who documented the story writing that he had doubts about some of Clements’ recollections e.g seeing trees out in a particular area of tundra where the author was sure there weren’t any, but when he researched it further he found out they were indeed there in a certain part, not many people knew of them. Something like that anyway. I’ve read that book so many times – there was a film made of it a few years ago but haven’t seen it yet.

Not read that book, but reminds of one of my favourite reads, “As far as my feet will carry me” which is a similar account but this time of a German soldier walking from Siberia to Germany. This book has also been labelled fiction by some but I believe it, and to be honest I’d be gutted if someone came up with ‘hard evidence’ it was made up.

Brilliant book, mine dates from 1959 and gives a pseudonym of “Clements Forell” due to fear of Russian retribution.

Anyone any idea of his real name?
