Jet2.com lands 150 new jobs at airport
Business with Nigel Scott

EXCLUSIVE
LOW cost airline Jet2.com is planning to increase staff in Leeds by as much as 50 per cent this year as it establishes a new head office at Leeds Bradford Airport.
The move will create 150 new jobs in the city.
Between 30 and 40 staff will transfer to Leeds from Bournemouth, where Jet2’s backroom functions have been based to date along with those of parent company, the Dart Group.
Weather
New and existing staff will be based in a two storey office building which has been built at Leeds Bradford Airport, taking staff numbers from the current 300 to around 450.
Chief executive, Philip Meeson, said the airline would begin advertising for the new posts shortly.
These would include operational posts responsible for making sure the airline ran smoothly – from making sure passengers got home in bad weather to organising crewing rosters.
The airline was constantly looking to recruit aircrew, he added.
Mr Meeson said the airline business was thriving and he was delighted to be confirming Jet2’s commitment to Leeds and the North by relocating the head office to the city.
Support
“We see ourselves as a Yorkshire-based operation. Up here is where you will find me.
“We have had great support from Leeds Bradford Airport and I would like to think we are giving something back,” he told the YEP.
Jet2’s origins belong in Bournemouth.
In 1983, Mr Meeson bought a transport business which specialised in flying in flowers from the Channel Islands and delivering them by lorry across the UK.
Other Dart Group acquisitions have included logistics companies Fowler Welch and Coolchain which have since been merged into one operation based out of Spalding in Lincolnshire.
The flower business “died”, Mr Meeson’s words, around five years ago as globalisation brought cheaper competition from other countries.
Jet2 has been a story of expansion since its first service took off from Leeds to Amsterdam early in 2003.
It has increased its fleet and the number of UK airports it operates from and has grown its network of overseas routes t o 23.
A 24th destination is due to be unveiled tomorrow.
The Dart Group, which has around five staff, will retain its offices in Bournemouth.

Anyway, as expected, Arrecife has gone on sale this morning, Thursday and Sunday departures from LBA at 09:30, arriving back at LBA 13:50.

Commences for the winter season on the 2nd of November.

Bit confused here, is Lanzarote a new destination from LBA? My mate said he flew on it about 3/4 weeks ago.

I think from a total wild guess, judging from the route map, I think it will be LBA to Valencia

As someone on Pprune pointed out, if you select Leeds Bradford in the booking option, it comes up with the much rumoured, Lanzarote! Brilliant news, Jet2 just keep expanding! Maybe we’ll get another of those new to Jet2 757s? ;).

I’m really chuffed, would expect probably once or twice a week like Tenerife.

Would imagine it would start late summer/early winter.

All excellent news, Jet2 have been fantastic for the Yorkshire region and long may they prosper.

A 24th destination…, that means a new destination, wonder if it will be from LBA?

I’m sure they operate to more than 23 destinations, they offer 21 from LBA alone! then you have the likes of BUD, VLC, LGW, EDI, NCL, ORK, BGO etc etc. Maybe they mean LBA and have the figures mixed up…
