Turned up at RAF Cosford Museum for a day volunteer stint and found that the BAE white and blue EAP demonstrator was on display at last. Quite amazing to see it “in the metal ” , the front end seems so high above the ground. Two for the price of one . Modern and elegant though it is I still think that the relatively small FW took my eye for very much longer. Well worth a free visit for locals .

I studied Aeronautical engineering at Loughborough 10 years ago and enjoyed climbing into and over the EAP.
I still remember the brutal way it was moved across the campus when the Aero and Automotive eng department moved buildings. The bit where it passed under a bridge with some of the aerials under the fin cap scraping along its concrete underside was crazy.

It last! And I always thought that it should have been put into production.
Hi Orion, it’s is a good looking aircraft all-right, and I understand it was used was as a technology demonstrator instead of a contender for production. The early Eurofighters still had RB199s I think, indicative of a looong development path.

Brian
Thanks for pics PP . Mine were taken by my Samsung phone ,you must have been quite busy to take so many shots . How did you manage the clear and high view-point for the EAP ? Going back to the FW 190 , hope I am not being too pedantic but what do you think is the werk nommer ? you say 584219 ,Aeroplane monthly say 733682 and Flypast mag say 313 ( definitely not this one ,313 was scrapped after evaluation). Finally all forum members welcome – How many would be interested in a guided tour with background info along the way ?

Did Loughborough University get a single seat Hawk to replace the EAP ?
Any pictures of the EAP at Cosford ? I imagine it looks great with the other experimental aircraft, bringing the collection right up to date.
