At a secret airfield 'somewhere in England'……..

The door seemed to have a rusty lock. I leaned on the door. It gave way and………..

Release looms for this movie, and a clip was recently aired on J Ross’s film prog-

I have to say that this particular sequence looked a bit odd, and was NOT the best example of CGI ever seen. Did not the producers state that the minicams which they were using would obviate the need for much CGI?
As it was, there was one of the Nieuports hurtling about at low level, swerving around a tree in a sort of aerial handbrake turn, much like the model Mosquitos in 633 Sqdn, yanked around on the end of fishing wire.

This does not bode well for the film, if the producers have abandoned any attempt to actually recreate the movement and dynamics of an aeroplane in flight.

Dammit, I really should pay more attention to Jonathan Ross’s Film programme, but I can’t stand the bloke much to watch him on TV for very long!!

Can’t find any kind of trailer for it online, however 🙁

Wow that jungmann should really do the trick! Will be great to have actual aerial cockpit shots, one thing i hated about films like ‘Mosquito Squadron’ and ‘Aces High’ was the background shots in the cockpit shops, made it look like it was going steeper than it was supposed to! Will also look more realistic, would be interesting to see some hollywood actors throwing up in an immelmann loop!

The Jungmann is being used to film aerial cockpit sequences with the actors.

Wonderful photos. Thanks a bunch. If you could make Old Warden with them that would really be the icing on the cake. Along with some excellent publicity for the film.

Message to Tony Bill?

Thanks very much for sharing your photos tcatco.

I met some of the pilots from “Flyboys” after the show at Old Warden yesterday, a fine bunch of chaps. I feel sure that they’ll be returning to Old Warden sometime during the season, I wish they could bring some of the “props” with them.

Rob

The word is that director Tony Bill reads these threads – so what about it Tony?

A Nieuport / Sopwith balbo flying into Old Warden at the end of filming would make great pre-launch film publicity!

Apparently the Jungmann is the ‘camera ship’ for the aerial and dogfight sequences. Its carrying a camera worth more than most of the aeroplanes!

Interesting to watch the filming. As soon a shot is complete the ‘planes are re painted in another colour scheme and re “weathered” to represent another squadron or ace. In fact the six Nieuports will represent something like 60 ‘planes in the film as different markings are applied. So you will appreciate it that it would be impossible to get shots of all the different Nieuport colour schemes unless you were there all the time ( like 24 hours a day 7 days a week ) & no way would that have been possible.
The artists can re paint a Nieuport with totally different markings within two hours . Of course some transfers are used but most of it was hand done.
Anyone got a full set of photos?

Like Battle of Britain, all the Spits/Me109s etc were given a different set of markings after each sortie – they basically edited the bejesus out of it later to get the footage they needed for the film!
