pedant mode :- ON…. Peter, It would definately not have been MoD Police at Langar in 1961 that picked you up,….MDP were not formed until 1971, and they have never been based at Langar anyway. Probably RAF Police or Security. Pedant mode :- OFF. Was interested to see the photo’s of Hucknall Air Display as a lad always looked forward to going to it on a Whit Monday, living only a couples of miles away it was one of the highlights of my year!! Oh…such memories. Got a short video (20 mins I think) of one of the Hucknall Air Displays, 1963 possibly, copied from someones home movies. Even shows a P-47 sat on the flight line, as well as a short flight around the area in an Auster.
Happy New Year to all,
Keith
Wow, any chance of a copy, have colour slide of the razor back P-47 at Hucknall, 1963. Did you used to sit on the slagheap and watch them chucking chickens and bricks into the jet engines on the test beds, it was good fun.
Incidentally, used to go to Hucknall Airshow on the back of my old mans tandem, dating from 1925, most memorable was 1972 featuring the Blue Angels, Whit Monday airshow was always followed by a trainspotting trip the next day, Grantham, Peterborough, Crewe, Shrewsbury, ( the best ), Chester.
Accept what you say about police at Langar, living near to Wethersfield has altered my memories.

Am sure that the 61 Cottesmore display featured an appearance by Douglas Bader, visiting Johnnie Johnston who was station commander at the time.
I didn’t realise that the Lincolns were assembled at Langar, what appears to be missing from my brothers album are photos taken at Langar of Shackletons being repaired, I remember that day well because we were jumped on by MOD police and taken to the guard room, I could not believe that 2 kids and a Brownie camera would have been a cause for breaching national security, my old man gave them a right going over and refused to hand over the film. We got away with it but I can’t find the photos, perhaps MI5 came in the night and……….

Good to know they both still fly. I had a feeling they may have been the collections examples but i whanted to ask.

….all were burnt at Tollerton shortly after the pictures were taken.
And so the one at Tollerton was one of those that (literally) never got off the ground ?
The meat freighter conversion of Lincoln airframes is a whole new can of worms! When the planned Lincoln U.5 programme, to convert to old bombers to pilotless drones, was cancelled, three of the 40-odd aircraft assembled at Avro’s Langar factory were purchased on 24.9.47 with the intention of producing aircraft to carry meat between Paraguay and Peru.
They were moved to Tollerton for Field Aircraft Services to do the job.
RE376 became the prototype, and is the one photographed with a deep fuselage and fully faired-in nose, much bigger than the Lancastrian nose. This carried the Paraguayan registration ZP-CBR-97.
Although the conversion appears to have been completed, there is no evidence that it ever flew and it was sold for scrap in 9.59 at Tollerton, as were RF417/ZP-CBQ-96 and RF458/ZP-CBS-98.
So your photo Pete, must be either… RE376, RF417 or RF458.

For the serious keen types, HMS Victorious, Portsmouth, 21/8/58 and Britains last battleship HMS Vanguard, the sea was so rough that everyone was throwing up on the harbour trip that day.
Anyone fancy some steam loco pics?

Hucknall, 22/5/61, apart from the shot of the Lightning, Embassader and Javelin which were taken during the school holidays, the spitfire should be there somewhere.

Very interesting photos. Note the one on the left is one of those Lincoln freighters. From what I can remember three were converted for use in Paraguay but were never delivered. I may be wrong, but am sat at work and havent got any references to hand.
Martin
Yes indeed.
Look at the thread ” Lancastrian freighter ?” which i’ll bump as well.
Cheers…

They were called Lincolnians, and intended as meat freighters.
