Drove past Cambridge last Thursday and saw the sillhouette of a Tristar mooching about, which I thought unusual, it then came over the top of the A14 on finals into Cambridge, and I saw it was an ATA one.
Anyone know the background, is it just going into Marshalls for maintenance, or is it going to be converted for the RAF?
I have only ever flown once on a Tristar, an Eastern one (N332EA) from Nassau (Bahamas) to Miami in 1980 after the Grumman Mallard we were meant to fly back to Miami on went u/s

it was just in for maintenance, and should have left last week, but trouble with No 2 engine during takeoff meant it had to stay on a bit longer for an engine change.

I saw a programme on Disco Wings on airliner Scrapping where the maintenance costs of the L1011s is getting so high that buying a new Boeing/Airbus is more viable, and the spares that they recover when they scrap them are almost worthless now….a real shame, I remember the old Courtline ones when I Lived in Luton in the early ’70s….
i know what you mean the tristar is a dieing breed ive never seen one myself but im told they look great close up

I cant see the RAF getting any more tristars. there currant fleet is performing well and they even have 3 with chaff systems fitted.

ATA still have four L10s in service, all short body -500 models. Two have recently had major checks done at GAMCO in Abu Dhabi, but I believe Marshalls still do some work on the fleet. I’m pretty sure that the RAF isn’t getting any more L10s!
