ATC Douglas C-54 legend in the fin

Hi all

Here you can see attached a photo of C-54 s/n 45-593 wearing ATC markings. The aircraft has painted in the fin the legend “B´PORE”, and my question is if anyone know which can be his meaning.

The legend hasn´t any connection with any of the air bases of the ATC units where the aircraft was assigned: Morrison AAF, Great Falls AAF and Westover AB.

At the moment I don´t have a higher resolution photo.

Thanks in advance
Cheers
Michel

No problem – you’ll see I’ve added a further bit of info to my first response which actually identifies a specific unit for you. I also amended the spelling to Barrackpore. 🙂

I see that this actual aircraft later went to Ejercito del Aire as T.4-13 which I assume is of special interest to you!

Thank you very much, Tim.
I see 1304th AAFBU 😉

It really is very interesting for me.

Yes, this C-54 was later T.4-13 in the Ejército del Aire, and you are right, I´m working in a book about our C-54s 😉

I have seen reference to B-PORE in relation to Air Transport Command operations at Barrackspore which was an airfield near Calcutta.

Hi Tim

Great¡¡¡

The records of the aircraft indicate that this C-54 was assigned to Tenth Air Force, Karachi (India) after to be delivered to USAAF on september 1945. Her returned USA on feb.1946. So I guess you are right. Excelent¡¡¡

I have seen reference to B’PORE in relation to Air Transport Command operations at Barrackpore which was an airfield near Calcutta and I think may now remain an IAF base. US C-54s were certainly used there and I’ve seen a report of at least one such aircraft damaged there for example in 1945.

See also reference in para 2 of material in following link to a specific unit of the ATC being at Barrackpore until at least 1946:
