ATE Super Hind Mk V

I had previously seen and been interested in South African Aerospace Company, ATE’s “Super Hind” Project, aiming to modernize the aging Mi-24 with new weapons, avionics etc.

This is the Mk III version:

After the recent AAD defence expo, an a lack of photos from the event, I followed a few links to ATE’s site, and found their project pages with the various stages of Superhind and Rooivalk II development there.

I was pleased to find new information regarding the Super Hind, and a page for the Mk V project, which further improves the aircraft’s performance.

A significant change in this upgrade is a redesigned cockpit structure.

As you can see it is a big difference from the old dual-bubble canopy, now looking more like the AH-56 or AH-1. A much greater field of vision is resultant from this change, combined with a lighter weight new avionics, and target detection systems.

The Mk V Project appears to have not yet been completed, and the only available image I could fine was the canopy image above.

I’ve created a quick little concept profile using an ACIG drawing combined with the new canopy to get this:

Does anyone have any more information or images of this project? 😉
