Not exactly big news but:
Direct flight from Edinburgh to The Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are now just an hour’s flight from Edinburgh. These green North Atlantic islands are an unspoilt heaven for for those who love nature. The small villages with turfed roofed houses, the towering cliffs, the rich culture and the millions of seabirds make the Faroe Islands an ideal destination for both a short break and a longer holiday. The capital, Torshavn, is one of the smallest in the world, with its quiet streets (only two sets of traffic lights) and busy harbour making it suitable as a base from which to tour. The Faroes are heaven for bird-watchers, with some of the Atlantic’s major colonies of gannets, kittiwakes, storm petrels, fulmars and puffins. Also on offer are walking, horse-riding and boat trips to the bird-cliffs.
Now these beautiful Islands are just over an hour away on the Atlantic Airways’ BA146 flight:: the weekly (Saturdays) service from Edinburgh to the Faroe Islands runs from 21 May until 10 September. Flights-only start from £175 return, including tax, whilst packages with accommodation – 7 days – start from £398 contact http://www.greengate.fo
Atlantic Airways also runs services to Aberdeen Thursday and Monday and London on Thursday and Sunday and customers are welcome to combine travels with departure from one city and returning to another.

Really? I didn’t know that. 🙂
I do remember the Icelandair Glasgow-Keflavik route, though.
That still operates 4 or 5 times a week on a 757.

Not so long ago, they also operated STN and ABZ to the Faroe Islands. I wonder if it is just a case of the ABZ bit changing to EDI instead?
Current temp in Vero Beach, FL 25c/77f 😀

And interesting service. I once had dealings with someone who wanted to start up exactly this route. All the signs where showing a brilliant success, but investors went cold and the idea folded.
This service should do well

Breaking your own rules, GA?
So sue me…..
They have indeed obtained another BAe 146 – it was in SpeedNews this morning.
It’s an ex-Malmo Aviation machine, leased from BAe: c/n E2115 which would make it SE-DRA.

I forgot to post this here earlier, but good news, I’m not sure what the aircraft is doing inbetween flights because it arrives at EDI in the morning before returning to the Faroes in the evening, but I have a hunch it could be a Zurich charter catering for Swiss tourists, I’m sure I read that somewhere…
Oh and EK, it’s only running for 4 months over the summer.
