ATT

Flights across Britain were temporarily grounded following a computer breakdown at an air traffic control centre.
The problem happened at 0605 BST on Wednesday at West Drayton, near London’s Heathrow airport.

It meant that flight data normally produced electronically had to be prepared by hand.

The system was fully operational again by just after 0640 BST, but air traffic control is currently running at 70% of its usual capacity.

This could mean delays for passengers at airports across Britain.

Thousands of travellers were stranded in airports around the world last month when a similar system failure happened.

Neither problem was connected with computers at the new Swanwick air traffic control centre in Hampshire, which was dogged by software problems before it opened six years late in January.

RE: ATT

I know totally about this, as I flew into Heathrow yesterday. Even though my flight (VS008) was meant to land at 11:10, because off the earlier trouble aircraft were having to join long que’s to land. Our flight circled around oxfordshire for about 1 hour before getting clearance to land.
