The following item from Newark’s website might be of interest.
“Disposal of un-made plastic aircraft kits
In late summer 2006 members of the museum saved a significant private collection of photographs, books, aviation documents and plastic kits from being sent to the local Landfill Site. Since then work has been ongoing to record and catalogue this collection. Following the recent discharge of Probate on these items they have all been bequeathed to the museum.
Amongst the collection were approximately 150 un-made plastic aircraft kits, which are to be sold to help fund the provision of new facilities for the incorporation of the photographs, books and aviation documentation into the Museum Archive….”

I had some correspondence with Neville in 83-4 and my impression was that he was not especially dismayed that CC had run its course.
I think he was not unhappy to be able to relinquish his long-running editorial duties, and pass on the toch to FlyPast, which had far more resourses to report and promote the vcintage ‘scene’.
Plenty of the contributors to CC are still around, such as Peter Arnold, Tim Badham, Stuart Howe and many others. I wonder where Malcolm Filmore ( Tiger Times) is now? It was a great little mag, with some really good material in, still worth looking at today.

Hah!
I have a 26 year old son who does not hide the fact that he will sell anything I own on ebay when I snuff it:p
He thought his boat came in in May when I had my heart attack, now I have just had my triple bypass op, I have threatened to outlive the little sod;) We do get on very well by the way:)
I love it when families get on well. Your relationship with your son sounds a bit like mine with my youngest. Friendly banter is the order of the day:)

Sunday 18 November 2007 – the balance will form part of an Aviation Book & Kit Sale, which will take place at the museum between 10am-4pm. On that day we are again offering a Special Admission rate of just £3.75 per person with a print out of this message. All proceeds to help fund an expansion of the Archive. [24.10.07]”

Denis, I’m in a somewhat similar position to you, I also suffered a heart attack back in Febuary and had a stent fitted in August (dam NHS waiting lists), however its been pointed out to me by the whole of my family that my collection will only go to the nearest charity shop should I pop off.
I’ve decided however to bring my house in order as 30 plus years of collecting is making the floors creek, so watch out on E-Bay chaps cos I’m about to sell the suff off myself.
Heart attacks can be a life changing thing, in more ways than one. By the way hope your feeling a lot better after your op.

Is anyone going to Newark this weekend for the kit viewing and made up kit sale?
Or has anyone bid yet?
“For anyone visiting the museum on Sunday October 14, 2007 there will be a chance to view the kits, on that day only with a print out of this text you will be eligible for museum admission at a cost of just £3.75 per person.”

Shame there wasn’t any full size Supermarine Seafire’s to be had:(
I understand the ‘full-size’ list could have been better than the kit list, but this is not the place!

I believe that RPSmith is correct with his assumption about the kits coming from the Neville Franklin Collection and also in his description about the early days of Newark Air Museum, BAPC and Control Column.
Out of interest I understand that many copies of Control Column recovered from the property in Newark have already been offered ‘free for collection’ via the BAPC.
I have helped list a few of the items recovered last year and I understand that many of the models were submitted by the manufacturers to Neville Franklin to be reviewed in Control Column. That having been said several of the boxes still carry the price ticket of a toy shop in Newark – P.J.Anderson; a shop where I spent many hours as a teenager back in the 1970s! From memory the shop owner used to fly an Auster – but I digress.
Please remember there are more details when you follow the link http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/news.php and then scroll down the page a bit.

didnt Neville Franklin edit the “Control Column ” magazine ? i bet there were some rare kits amongst the hoard, lets hope they found good homes:cool: 😎 😎
Neville Franklin was one of the pioneers of the UK’s “amateur” aircraft preservation movement that got going in the 1960’s. He was instrumental in setting up Newark Air Museum (with Charles Waterfall) and when the new magazine “Control Column” launched by the Northern Aircraft Preservation Society in early 1967 got into difficulty he took it over and ran it for many years. The arrival of “FlyPast” and “Aeroplane Monthly” effectively took away “Control Columns” market and it ceased publication.
That’s a probably terrible mini-biography and I apologise for any mistakes. If anyone can come up with corrections – or a better version I will happily delete it.
Re: kits going to good home – you’ve got about 4 weeks to make offers yet as bidding closes sometime in October (see link on previous thread). Remember monies raised will go towards funding the incorporation of the collection at NAM.

Have YOU got a collection? If so have you made provision for when you “fall off the perch”

I think that will be the collection of the late Neville Franklin. It was a very close run thing that it didn’t all end up dumped.
I’m delighted that Newark Air Museum – who’s members stepped in and removed the collection to safety with no expectation of acquisition – have become beneficiaries.
