Aubenas Airshow, France, July 2005

Hi,

most of you, I’m sure, don’t even know where the Ardèche area is. Although there are a lot of foreigners in this part of France during summer holidays! 😉
Well, Aubenas is a small, remote town in Ardèche, in the South of France, near the Rhone Valley.

On July 23rd and 24th, the small Aubenas airfield hosted let’s say a “family” airshow, with some of the most famous warbirds, and also the “Patrouille de France”.

On the aircrafts list, we had : Spitfire MkXIX (the one with the two propellers you probably saw at Duxford), Corsair, Skyraider, T28 Trojan, Storch, Broussard, Dakota, MS312 Flamant, Noratlas, Bucker Jungmann, etc…

Of course it wasn’t as huge as the Duxford airshow, but when you consider where and when it was held, you can feel happy, as I am!

Here are some pics, and many more (around 150 pics) to see on my website http://www.konnek-t.com/Photo/index.html

Hehe, I was just joking 😀
I know the T-28s were used as light attackers too – and so were the Magisters.
Just their primary role was training, but you’re absolutely right about Algeria.
Interesting link, by the way 🙂

True true… Then the Fouga Magister is a heavy bomber!

Does it mean you don’t trust me?

T-28 were used by the French Air Force as an attack aircraft in Algeria

I wonder why there are hardly ever T-28s in the UK. They’re nice chubby planes.

Actually, Skyraider, T-28 were used by the French Air Force as an attack aircraft in Algeria. But you’re right, the F4U-7 were an attack aircraft… and I’m too lazy to rebuilt the thumbs arrangement! 😉 :p

Is it owned by the same guy who has (had?) that even grubbier looking skyraider?

Right now, no, he “only” owns this Spitfire and a Corsair…

Nice photos

I like the slightly scruffy spitfire. Looks used and operational, and less like a polished fibreglass like some of the highly polished brit-based ones.

Is it owned by the same guy who has (had?) that even grubbier looking skyraider?

Company policy perhaps? and one of which i approve of as long as the dirt doesnt accelerate corrosion or anything.

Holy Moley! Those are great! What a fantastic backdrop. When’s the next show? I feel another visit to France coming up 🙂

By the way, I went to France ecery summer for five weeks as a kid. The Ardèche area is one of the prettiest (and hottest).

I just had a look on your website – absolutely fantastic stuff. I especially like the Noratlas take off shot, and the few “artsy” close-ups (Alpha Jet, Dakota). What equipment do you use?
One picky point though about the arrangement… the T-28 is a trainer and the F4U-7 Corsair is an attack aircraft 😉

Thanks!

Indeed the weather was just perfect. On the arrival day (friday) and on sunday, it was very sunny and of course hot. I really enjoyed being there with pilots and mechanics, only few meters from the flight line. 🙂
