Aubrey(Hilli) Hilliard

Aubrey Hilliard known to his friends and family as Hilli passed away on 3rd October 2010 aged 91.
He flew Blenheims and Mosquitos in world war 2, the Mosquitos were Coastal Command ones. I am his nephew.
A very good tribute to him was given at his funeral last Thursday by 2 chaps from the Mosquito Aircraft Museum at London Colney nr St.Albans, Herts.
I would like to thank the people who looked after him so well over rhe years by taking him to museum functions both there and at Duxford
If anyone new him it would be good to hear from you
Thanks,
John Hilliard

I hope I cause no offence by posting this picture of Hilli taken at Salisbury Hall around 1984. I’d got their Molins 57mm gun restored by our apprentices here in Peterborough and we took Hilli there. He brought with him a nose plate from Mosquito HX903 which he was flying when they took returned fire from a U-Boat they hit with 5 shells from their Molins Gun.

Hilly Hilliard

Just to add Hilly Hilliard used to fly Beaufighters and Mosquitos.

Most notably with 618 squadron and the MK XVIII Mosquito equipped with the 57mm Molins “big gun” for use against the U Boat.

Hilly was a fantastic uncle and his stories and our chats I will sorely miss.

RIP Hilly, a true gentleman and the most wonderful uncle anybody could wish for.
