Audax K7376 Wreckage Edendocher Hill, Kincardineshire Scotland

This was new to me, quite a bit of wreckage still on site

The aeroplane Crashed on the 5 May 39 while with 8 FTS pilot was Acting Pilot Officer John Desmond Lenahan who was trapped in the cockpit among the wreckage. The other occupant of the machine was Acting Flying Officer Robin Earl Atkinson. Both Crew Rescued OK

Pilot Officer John Desmond Lenahan was killed in action during the Battle of Britain on the 9th of September 1940 whilst a member of 607 Squadron based at Tangmere. His Hurricane P3117 crashed in an orchard at Mount Ephraim, Cranbrook after combat with Do 17’s and Bf 109’s over Mayfield at 5.35 p.m. A further four squadron aircraft were shot down during this action with another force landed at a cost of another two pilots killed, a black day indeed.

Its a well known wreck in Scotland -there is the remains of a Master nearby.I tried to get a local museum to have a go at recovering both but to no avail.

Would have thought there’s enough there to give an identity to another Hawker Biplane rebuild……
