Audi A1

I was wondering if anyone has driven, or what their opinion is of the new Audi A1 especially the Sport version with Red / Black Leather interior?

I actually did, about 3 weeks ago. Not long, just 20 minutes.

The version with the 1.2TFSI engine. Quality pretty good. Interior space not great, but it’s a small car. Forward upward visibility quite bad, problem at traffic lights. Suspension very good for the class. Engine strong and lively enough for driver plus one pax. Not so good the steering, somewhat numb around the center and then a quite sudden onset of response (and making sounds when turning at standstill). Pedal-harmony suprisingly Japanese/Korean, really not like any other Audi I’ve been driving before.

Would I buy it? As a city car, maybe yes, if I were looking for something in that market segment.

MoggyC it’s a dream but who knows I may manage to close in on Captain Slow’s speed

MoggyC it’s a dream (my wish list) but who knows I may manage to close in on Captain Slow’s speed of 407 kmph.
I have to my credit safely managing the world’s fastest supercomputers so why not the Veyron?

I am one of the few guys who has done the Millbrook banked circuit – unlimited lane (extreme outer) in an Audi 8 (5 km on the clock since new), hands off steering all round (no drift at all) and the speedo needle was just short of max with revs safe. The music on the CD – Eagles “Take it to the Limit” which I did.:D
Marshall with a wry smile on his face had to ask me to take a 10 min ‘time out’ break as I should have apparently cleared use of the banked unlimited outer lane beforehand as it’s usually reserved for professional rally and race drivers.

I’d love to do the same with the Audi 1 Concept, and Audi R8 – take them to the limit at Millbrook.

Thanks for the Audi 1 vid

Of course my dream – to drive a Bugatti Veyron:D

I wonder why ‘of course’?

For the OP, worth watching this

Beats the Mini hands down on the interior (which is where you spend your time). Working for Nissan last year we had a few Coopers as ‘competitor’ vehicles for the road drive sections. They drive beautifully and feel well put together.. but that interior….

Why not mosy along to your nearest Audi dealership and see if they’ll give you a shot

Why not mosy along to your nearest Audi dealership and see if they’ll give you a shot in one (if you have the insurance cover)

Tell us all if you do try one what your opinion is.:)

I think the Audi R8 V12 TDI concept is in a league of its own in the Audi stable apart from the dream made for the film IRobot.

Of course my dream – to drive a Bugatti Veyron:D

Pre Auto Union there was the DKW, have even seen them race on an old airfield

Pre Auto Union there was the DKW, have even seen them race on an old airfield. My childhood neighbour had a brand new Auto Union as they owned the agency and he used to race it. They looked so unstable racing round corners in actual races. If I remember correctly it had a column shift.

I’ve had 5 Skodas ( Pre & Post VW ) Wife still has a 52 Fabia 1.4 estate. The pre vw were crappy fun , bought as hobby cars . My 05 Tdi Eleganze Superb was built well up to Audi standards only the quality of materials was not up there with the best. I also owned a very early Audi 100 nice car a bit of a cross between an old Auto Union & a Merc.

My ’04 vRS is still going strong and I have had it for 5 years 🙂

All A1s seem to come in white, have you noticed?

You would probably get more fun out of a Skoda Fabia VRS –my comment!!

I agree, the Skoda since V.W. took over still has the stigma of the old Skoda image. Much like many yrs ago when the Vauxhaul Victor purchased brand new rusted out in 6 months.

Very happy with my new Mini Cooper so far, would like the “S”, but the Ins at my age precluded that. At least I am getting more MPG than I was with the Landy.

Not sure about the ” Sport ” , but in the words of Auto Express —-“Not very good to drive , limited rear leg room, bit plain looking in standard form”

You don’t mean the concept version

You don’t mean the concept version.
Try forums that are populated by fans of http://www.millbrook.co.uk/Page/Home

If it’s hugged the unlimited lane banked circuit (I prefer hands free) and done the rally course at Millbrook with no difficulty then it probably is okay to good heading to excellent.
