August 15th 1945 VJ Day

August 15th 1945.

Now 60 years on can we remember all those that helped bring that savage war to an end. I think of those Aussies in the Pacific Rim, the Brits in Burma and India and of course the USA in the thick of things ‘island hopping’ to Japan. Not forgetting all the other allied servicemen too who brought this evil regime to its knees.

Often regarded as the Forgotten Army and Air Force these guys had to endure some atrocious conditions with often poor equipment

Lest we forget………….

VJ day

A big thank you to the allied forces.
I had four great uncles and a granddad involved in ww2.
One in europe, north africa,at sea and two in Asia.
both uncles who were in Asia never really stopped living their war years, one spent three years in a prisoner of war camp, the other contracted malaria in Burma and i vividly remember him having malaria attacks on a regular basis, this is possibly what ended his life prematurely at the age of 58.
when you get older you on just begin to realise the sacrifices these people made.Day by day i miss them more and never really had the chance to say THANK YOU properly.
