Hi Min, Mecurion, Aussietiger et al,
in the latest issue of Flight International, the selection of the Tiger is headline stuff. The last sentence of the article mentions that the selection of the Tiger greatly improves the chances that Australia will go for the Rafale bid which is being supported by Dassault and EADS. EADS builds the Typhoon and it looks like the Rafale is being offered at the expence of the Typhoon. Two questions.
What does AIR 6000 lay emphasis on? Strike or Air Superiority. From the myriad collection of planes being offered, it´s difficult to tell exactly what the requirement is. How important is a two engine plane to Australia. Will you guys still be deploying long distances over water?
Could it be that Dassault and EADS have, given that they´re all one big family, finally come to an agreement whereby one or the other plane is offered. I believe this is the most sensible way for the Europeans to market these two planes in future RfPs. The Typhoon is the better AD plane- the Rafale is the better strike plane.
