I’ve noticed from G-INFO that the ownership of the aforementioned Autocar has changed to someone in Australia. Does anyone know if it is likely to remain here (and if so where?) or whether it is to be exported? I ask simply because I would like, if possible to take some pics of it, it having played a major part in my love of aircraft from a very young age…

Very late to this, but did G-ASFK ever get its new powerplant? I see it is now VH-LOO.

Gippo spares
He has – so im told – but mostly GM-1 parts sadly. I need a 145 hp engine to get ”FK” aloft once again – its a heavy airframe.

Have you tried Stan Smith at North Shore, Auckland. He’s a lot nearer to you, when I was there 4/5 years ago he had a shed full of Gipsy spares, never seen so many Gipsy bits in one place!!

Cirrus Woes
I have exhausted that one – pardon the pun. It seems the parts long since went into engines. I prefer the idea of a 10-2 – with the parts available fairly readily.

The ”mighty Cirrus” recently decided to give up the ghost and dropped a valve with dire consequencies to the engine – she now resides in my hangar with my Tiger Moth – in pieces –
The Cirrus Major spares were reputedly sold to India for one of their unsuccessful projects and subsequently sold on to an Australian purchaser. The answer may lay in Oz!

Skeeter 7
Had Gipsy 215 hp engine. This was the most successful Skeeter. 64 were built and acquired by the British Army Air Corps.

…another one bites the dust. Strange that Australia has a strict export ban on vintage and historic aircraft, yet we can let ours go there in droves! Auster Autocars are rare and I was also hoping to see and photograph this one in the UK.:(
Autocars are indeed fairly rare. Is G-ARKG still resident in the U.K?
Seven were registered in Kenya VP-KJN -KKM – KKN -KKO -KKP -KNL & KPZ. I have yet to find a photograph of any one of them. Several served with Dessert Locust Control Organisation DLCO in the mid 50s. G-ARKG was formerly VP-KKN.
Equally elusive are three J/1B Aiglets VP-KKR -KKS & -KKT which also served with DLCO. -KKR returned to this country to fly as G-ARBM: believe it may not be currently airworthy.

I am the owner of G-ASFK and I can confirm it resides 2 hours east of Melbourne on a strip. The pic on G-INFO was taken at home [ the strip] after re-assembly in September 2010.
The Auster is still registered as G-ASFK and current.
I can send pics on request: vx118@bigpond.com
Or you can visit personally!

G-ASFK, c/n 3276, Auster J5G
According to GINFO the owner is Mr. Harrison in Heyfield, Victoria (AUS)
But can’t find an Australian registration at the CASA website for a proper search of new photos.
