Very nice project, and still at a very reasonable price

Andre – I believe G-AJUD is still in the U.K . It’s been around for a number of years as a project.
As for your MK.6 -could you give us an update on what you still need?
David,
Thank you for your interest. There sure are parts we need whether the’re missing or in bad shape.
– propellor
– capping rings on top of fuel tank openings
– cockpit instrument layout panel (black background plate which holds all instruments). Sorry no correct description at hand right now.
– rubber tubes which connect the fuel tanks from the wing to the airframe. We have the taps but the old rubber parts are poor.
More things may come up once working on them. Guess that’s the charm of working on old planes. There’s always a new surprise around the corner.
Started today constructing a new leading edge for the lefthand wing. Not finished yet but made progress.

I am sure Liz and Paul wont mind me mentioning them here! I have seen them once this year. Following a visit to our workshop last year they bought Proctor 1 VH-DUL formerly G-AHFU. Good news is that the Hornet and Tiger are both in fine fettle, even better is that their Proctor is now on active rebuild in Australia with the intention to return the completed aircraft to the UK and operate her alongside their other two machines. Very nice people true enthusiasts and excellent to know that yet another wooden Percival will be flying here in years to come.

I checked the Dutch aircraft registration database of the Department of Transport and it doesn’t show G-AJUD or c/n2614 so it ain’t flying if its around.
Found 3 entries:
PH-NET – C/N 1416 – Auster mk.V – Midden Zeeland ap
PH-NGK – TAY-61111 – Auster mk. III – KLU historical flight
PH-NEH – C/N2932 – Auster J5B – Midden Zeeland ap
Present at museums:
PH-NFH – Auster J1 – Aviodome museum
NX537G – Auster mk.III – Deelen museum (This plane is a rebuilt using parts from former PH-NIN).
R-11 – Auster mk.III – Soesterberg museum depot
Under restoration:
VF608 – Auster mk.VI – Hoogeveen airport

G-AJUD
Thanks to everyone for the input. I did see on this site that the plane had been sold on e-bay a few years ago — that’s how I got here, through a Google search of the registration. I was wondering if anyone had any information on where it had gone as e-bay doesn’t keep records past 90 days.
Nice to hear from NZ. I did a PPL at Northshore airfield about 10 years ago, along with a bit of R22 helicopter flying.
Any further input appreciated if anyone has any for me.

The wings you need are Part No JA 80547/L and /R. They are the same on J1, J1B and J5.
J2 and J4 are Part No JA 80770/L and /R.
I have a spare set of the ‘547s but the cost of packing, freight etc from NZ would be rather prohibitive methinks.

I guess the Auster Club may know more on her where abouts. Although I live in the Netherlands, I haven’t heard of her (yet).
I know some other Austers operate out of Midden Zeeland airport but that’s about 300km from my place.
For our MK.6 VF608 project we used 3 different wings of which none where from the original VF608. Could be one of them came from G-AJUD but that is/was a J-1 and I doubt whether the wings are of similiar construction.
Cheers, André

She used to be owned by Naylan Moore at Aeroventure. She was sold on EBay probably three years ago.

Auster G-AJUD
I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to G-ajud. I used to own this aircraft, in fact it was I who put the “Dunkeswell Aero Club” lettering on her in readiness for the Exeter airshow. Out of interest, I paid 650 pounds for her in 1970. Some years ago I tried to research her wherabouts and got some partial information that she had been damaged and that the whole plane, or perhaps only parts of her (wings?) had been exported to The Netherlands. If she’s somewhere around and perhaps available I might be interested in resoring her for sentimental reasons. Anyone got any ideas for me?

For the researchers: its former VF-608/G-ASIP. When in military service it operated for the British Embassy in The Hague and was based at former Ypenburg air base.
If one of you has old photos from her back than please let me know.Cheers, André
No photos of it in military service I’m afraid but here’s one of G-ASIP, as she was, at Shoreham in the 1960s.
I understood that this one was written off in a hangar fire at Nympsfield, so it’s a welcome case of another Auster making a remarkable recovery. 🙂

This project is still making progress although its moving slowly.
The RAF Air Historical Branch was able to deliver the name of the Air Attaché who used the plane at British Embassy between 10 Nov 1949 and 25 October 1951. Its former Group Captain (later Air Commodore) John M.D. Ker. I wonder if it would be possible to track down some of his relatives/children assuming that Air Commodore passed away since.
We’re still looking for a photo of VF608 in the markings used in above period of time. Maybe one of his kids has it?

G-ASIP
Although G-ASIP was in the hangar at Nympsfield that was subject to an arson attack in 1973 it was in a dismantled state following an earlier relatively minor accident. Five gliders and two Tiger Moths were also present in the hangar at the time of the fire and may well have suffered a worse fate. The Auster when seen there in 1986 was tattered but unburned.
Andre1967 I have sent you a PM on the subject of photos.

There’s no fire damage visible. The fuselage has already been worked on before the project was bought. No doubt they want her flying again and with the dedication these people show I think it will be within some years again.
Thank you for the photo! Who is to credit for it?

The two sets of wings propped up against the T2 hangar wall at Leicester were both off Austers, unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of them when I was there

Joe,
thank you for the feedback.

Any idea what wings they are exactly?
Cheers, André
Hi Andre
No, not even 100% sure they were Auster wings, only noticed them in passing. The other set, as I mentioned, are off an Aiglet and are short span so no good for you (thet are damaged anyway). You could try giving the maintenance company at Leicester a call, they look after a few Austers.

You could also try posting on the Auster club forum.

Anybody know where G-AJUD is off to next, having been sold?

I noted two set’s of wings stacked up in the T2 hangar at Leicester recently.
One set were from Aiglet G-AMTD, (short span), and I ‘am reasonably sure the other set were ex Auster as well.
Any idea what wings they are exactly?
My friends are working on re-storing a Auster 6A Tugmaster into flying condition again.
They have 2 right wings but need a left wing to complete the airframe. I think they are willing to trade that additional right wing.
Besides an engine the airframe is pretty complete now allthough the pictures may look different. 🙂

With Austers being on the LAA the problem of having no log books isn’t really an issue. What the fuselage made is pretty much what it’s worth regardless of recession. There is a lot of expense on her before she does any kind of flying again and Auster’s don’t fetch massive sums anyway!
By: avion ancien - 8th August 2009 at 19:22
It’s sad that the fuselage made only £920 – but probably the buyer doesn’t share that view! Maybe it’s a sign of the times – or an indication of the difficulty and cost of overcoming the absence of its wings and log books! I wonder who bought it and with what intention and whether it’s staying in the UK.
Someone on this forum must know, surely.
