For those vintage aeroplane enthusists in Australia, a reminder that one of Australia’s leading vintage aeroplane gatherings is taking place again. The event is called QVAG;’s Festival of Flight and is being held over the last weekend in August (29-31st August 2008.) and it is being held at Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield (near Toogoolawah, 100km from Brisbane, Queensland).
This event normally attracts about 100 vintage and warbird aeroplanes and takes the form of a big fly-in. It is not an air show and has no scheduled flying displays. However with the large range of aeroplanes present, you can usually be assurred to see many interesting flights.

Avion Ancien
The first image of an aircraft that almost always attends, it is own and flown by a mate of mine, Des Porter. The second image is of an aircraft type not familiar to me, maybe someone can help out with a maker and type. The nameplate on the engine is in German. Both images were taken at Watts Bridge Feb 2008 at Watts Bridge at a QVAG Fly-in

Remind me to send you some of what we get here – rain and wind, regardless of whether it is winter or summer, spring or autumn. It appears that global warming is rather selective!

All things going well, I will post some photos. You likely don’t know but Eastern Australia is in a big drought been going on for a few years now and fly-ins are better than cloud seeding for making rain.
Interestingly I live in Brisbane, a city of over 1 million people and over the last 2 years, the daily water consumption has been cut by 45% – quite an achievement.
cheers

Can we rely on you, Proctor VH-AHY, to post some photos of the event. It’s rather too far for me to go. Maybe next year, as they say, wistfully!
