Australian Airlines: A New Style In The Skies

Here’s an Interesting Article about the uniforms of the new Airline down here, Australian

Australian Airlines today gave a sneak preview of its new crew uniforms ahead of the airline’s inaugural services on October 27.

Australian Airlines General Manager Commercial Andrea Staines said that the design of the uniforms aimed to capture the airline’s contemporary Australian style.

“Our uniforms, which were designed by Peter Weiss and are being manufactured by Dowd Australia, continue the Australian colour theme of the airline’s logo and aircraft livery,” she said.

Ms Staines said Australian Airlines Cabin Crew uniforms featured the same elements for both male and female flight attendants:
Black pants
Ochre shirt
Desert sand coloured bomber jacket
Black hooded overcoat

“While the colours represent the desert, the fit and fabric of the uniforms are inspired by a more urban style, featuring stretch cotton and polished denim,” Ms Staines said.

The uniform of the Flight Crew features a vibrant short sleeved blue shirt and black bomber jacket, both with silver epaulettes, and black overcoat. In line with the more casual style of the uniforms, there are no ties or caps.

Both the Australian Airlines and Weiss Art logos are incorporated on the sleeve of all garments.

Designer Peter Weiss said the combination of Weiss Art and Australian Airlines in the design of the uniform represented a joint commitment to promoting the true Australian spirit.

“Australian Airlines provided a fantastic opportunity to step outside the square and create a fresh and young image, incorporating the unique colours of the Australian desert,” he added.

Christopher Walter, Managing Director of Dowd said that Australian Airlines’ approach to the uniforms was very refreshing.

“The practicalities of the flight attendant’s role was a strong consideration in manufacturing the uniforms. Our aim was to provide a solution that covered the airline’s operational requirements while fitting in with the unique Australian Airlines image,” he said.

Australian Airlines has recruited more than 190 flight attendants who are currently undergoing training in Cairns.
