Australian Bulldogs

I am down in MEL for a few weeks and bought an Australian Aviation magazine in Sydney on the way down from SFO. I checked the register and did not find one Bulldog. I know there are about 20 in the US flying under the ‘Experimental’ catagory but was surprised to find that not one has found it’s way down under.

Any explanation for this?

Yes, from all I read here and on the ‘other’ board CASA seem incredibly difficult to deal with – far more than either the CAA or FAA.

I could not believe when I read in Australian Aviation Magazine that CASA has asked them to discontinue their often very amusing ‘On The Airwaves’ articles – because “It promoted poor R/T procedures” or something like that.

I was down in Oz at the Airtourer Association meeting last year and I spoke to a lady who had looked at bringing one of the ex-RAF Bulldogs on to the register. The hassle was just too great and CASA were less than helpful. In the end she bought one of the RAAF Bulldog equivalents, the Airtrainer CT/4 and was very pleased with it although operating them is not all plain sailing. Did you know that Victa/Aesl nearly got the Bulldog contract for the RAF but wouldn’t change the centre spade grip for dual sticks. The later Airtrainers did have them and acheived some sales success as a result.
