Apparently the Typhoon has been permanently dropped now and it seems that the Russians are making significant head-way with the MiG-29M2 (I think thats the varriant on offer – feel free to correct me). Apparently the Austrians won’t have to lift a finger or pay a penny as the whole deal could come about as part (or all) of Russia’s debt repayment. Seems pretty sweet if you ask me, the Austrians get free planes, including development, customization, training and support and the Russians get a MiG foothold in the market.
Would really be great for MiG if a reasonably respectable air force bought some 29s and loved them – not to mention the years of spare parts sales.
What do you all think? Any more specific details would be most welcome.
