I’m sure I won’t get many answers, but I’m going to give it a try. Do we have many AV-8 experts around here? I’m wondering what types of weapons (in what numbers) can be carried on the Harrier’s hardpoints. Something I’ve thought was a bit odd was a photo of an AV-8B taking off during OIF. It has a GBU-16 (or maybe a GBU-12 I can’t really tell) under the port inboard underwing pylons, and a Litening pod on the starboard inboard underwing pylon plus a pair of external fuel tanks on the intermediate wing pylons. The reason I think this is odd is that first off it’s not very symmetrical, and secondly wouldn’t it make more sense to put the Litening pod on the centerline of the aircraft so you could get one extra bomb in there and then place the heavier external fuel tanks on the inboard pylons with the bombs on the intermediate pylons? Is the inboard (starboard that is) underwing pylons the only place that the Litening can be carried? Why not on the centerline? The only other store I’ve ever seen listed to be able to be carried there is the (seemingly rarely used) AN/ALQ-167 ECM pod as well as a number of unguided bombs.
What else can be fitted on the centerline hardpoint. A weapons chart would be nice if anyone has one? I have yet to see any comprehensive books on the AV-8B that might help me out. Thanks in advance….
