My Avenger is marked exactly from an aircraft [we have a photo of her] that flew from USS Essex in 1945 with Torpedo 83 [VT-83] part of Air Group 83 [AG-83]. The gunner from the original “Georgia Peach” is still living and I have had an email from him.

What would be good, for your next shoot, is to have him in the back seat – how many gunners can say they’ve flown in an aircraft restored in the markings of one they flew in?? 😉

The gunner from the original “Georgia Peach” is still living and I have had an email from him. Side numbers were for visual ID both in the air and for use in the carrier traffic pattern when the LSO would use the visual sighting f the side number to talk an aircraft in and it relevant to Air Groups and the first or second number indicated the unit or aircraft type. The same numbering could be seen on various aircraft from different carrier air croups [CAG’s].

Oscar-

Great shots, Justo certainly knows his stuff…good looking bird, we have one here in Colorado in basically the same scheme with the # 309 on her too, but the white arrows instead (USS Bunker Hill)…shot it over Aspen from a T-6 and it had a hard time keeping up with us! Some magnificent pics there my friend, keep her flying!

Glad you enjoyed it. We are taking the TBM to NAS Nowra this week. It will be the first time one has been there for nearly 60 years. There is an air show in mid-May there too. [the silver aircraft in the last photo is a Wirraway from Caboolture, Qld…]

Great stuff Mr Duck.
I have been sitting behind it and the Sea Fury for quiet a few hour’s today, The Zero nearly got Nigel again.
This is what most people talked about when near the Avenger, Doe’s this one still fly!!!.
How did they think it got there???.
Great Display mate, She is a beauty.
Nigel’s wife gave me her pass to the CLUB AIRSHOW Chalet S21.
Very nice Lady.
I got to sit with some tiger moth pilot’s and talk shop, Get free food and cold water served in a Glass, Great view from there Tooo
Please thank her for me when you see her please Oscar.
Tell her I was the Guy who asked her and Nigel if they knew Oscar Duck.
They looked at me a bit silly mate.
Cheer’s all, Tally Ho! Ho! Phil.(how long doe’s it take Nigel to get back home Oscar)

Good to see that you used the universal signal for Photographers on the second shot. 😀

A guy who lived here in Australia was a night fighter “ace” in the Pacific flying Avengers. An amazing aircraft.
