Avenger pic

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-10-02 AT 09:02 AM (GMT)]Anyone here like the avenger. Well here is a pic of one. This was taken at East Fortune when they had their annual PFA fly in.

I have a couple more and when I have time I will scan them also.

Merlin

Again sorry about the quality but I was only using a bog standard point and click camera.

RE: Avenger pic

Am I right about it being a CoD plane?

Another thing, are there any “Tarpon’S” still around? These were the modifided Avengers used by the RN FAA as bombers not Torpedo bombers.

RE: Avenger pic

That’s alright. It starts with ‘Tony H’, that’s close enough for government work. 🙂

RE: Avenger pic

I didn’t mean Anthony Hutton. Temporary brain failure.

I meant Tony Haigh-Thomas

or Anthony Worral Thompson

or something

Doh

RE: Avenger pic

Yes, that’s his. Am I right in thinking it’s the only airworthy Avenger in the UK at present?

RE: Avenger pic

I’m not a great registration memoriser, but that looks a lot like the one belonging to Anthony Hutton. The aircraft is North Weald based, Anthony is a Shuttleworth trustee.

RE: Avenger pic

Is that actually a COD version of the Avenger from the 50’s? It certainly looks like one.

RE: Avenger pic

Thanks guys.

Here is a more. Sorry about the quality of the pics as I said before it was a point and click thingy and the focus is non existant.

But here they are anyway.

Merlin

The first is a general view and the second is a view of the wing span.(My personal favourite)

RE: Avenger pic

Thanks for the picture Merlin.I just thought I’d point out that Midway was not the Avenger’s finest hour.If I remember rightly, only a few survived thier attack run,and only one Avenger finally made it home. The Avenger proved it’s worth in the long run though, particularly with the Fleet Air Arm and the British Pacific Fleet. If it hadn’t been for the supply of Avengers, the Navy would have had to struggle on with the Barracuda, which was finding little favour among the FAA squadron’s who used them. One Corsair pilot remarked that every deck landing of a Corsair looked dicey, but every Barra looked a certain crash!

RE: Avenger pic

Hi Merlin, Not the prettiest aircraft in the world, but anything with a big 24 Cylinder, 1,700 hp radial can’t be all bad! They certainly sorted out the opposition at Midway!
