Anyone on these forums collect aviation art by chance?
Recently, I’ve been trying to decide on buying a nice piece of aviation art for my home, and I’m not really sure where to buy it from given the large number of outlets you can find on the internet.
Specifically I’m looking for a good piece involving the Fairey Swordfish because as many of you know it’s one of my favorite airplanes, and I think it would be just great to have a great piece of artwork with it in my house.
I found a number of good looking pieces on aviationartprints.com. Given that the prices are in British Pounds, I assume I’ll be ordering from overseas. I have no problem with this, but can anyone vouch for the legitimacy of the site?
Any other recommendations?

Other options is the likes of the guild of aviation artists, they sell their work and do commissions…. see

I have a copy of The Swordfish Story… Not really suitable for the wall, but quite good reading… Otherwise I have an oil of an Argentinian Pucara low over the sea…

What about the back pages of FlyPast mag, they often get artists “Looking” for work.

Rall that’s a wonderful picture you have posted of the artwork you own. Did it come in that particular frame or did you buy the frame separately.
Thanks to the others for the various suggestions as well! I wasn’t aware we had artists here on the forum, but indeed if any have Swordfish prints I’d be interested.
I’m having trouble figuring out just what subject matter I’d like in terms of the various duties of the Swordfish. Part of me wants something pertaining to Taranto, the Channel Dash, or the Bismarck, but another part of me would like something having to do with the convoy escort mission and U-boat hunting.
Such a plane the Stringbag……I can’t decide which mission to go with for my first order.

Off the top of my head Robert Taylor, Gerald Coulson and Philip West have produced limited edition prints of Swordfish, although as mentioned above, ehangar has a useful search tool (I can’t post a direct link, but their search tool found 11, not including Philip West’s “Operation Ceberus”, which is my favourite, I think, and his other Swordfish paintings):

ebay’s always a good place to look for bargains. I’ve quite a substantial collection of Coulson prints, quite a few (well, 3 or 4) of them found at prices verging on theft on ebay!:D
Here’s a good link to Philip West’s Sworsfish:

Most of us ‘lower level’ artists will do commissions on canvass for a similar price to the better prints! As said, have a search for the Forum Virtual Art Gallery and have a look at the mediums and talent on display. Just PM whoever catches your eye and ask.

Have you checked out our very own Aviation Art thread on this forum, some very good examples on there and maybe a forumite will do a commissioned piece for you?!
