Aviation filming at Top Gear test track

I realise top gear and its presenters are not everyone’s cup of tea however on sunday as the star in a reasonably priced car did their lap you could see the DC3/C47 in the background with its tail jacked up and what looked like a blue screen behind the tail and had staging by the cargo door, anyone know whats being filmed? nigel.

This is a video clip with some lovely filming around Dunsfold,if you do not have time to watch the whole thing just FF to 22.00 and there you will find a lovely clip of a silver/yellow T7 being flown on a spinning sortie from dunsfold – including in cockpit footage 😀

I thought this thread needed a video.

Does anyone actually know what they are filming?

Pleasure Geoff !

A nice view of main Dunsfold Tech site as a GR7 with 100% LERX does a slow flyby, the Hangar to the left of the pic is the Flight Shed (rebuilt T2) where TG has been filmed since 2005,the building between the triple main production Hangar and the right hand T2 Hangar was the Spray Shop and was the original TG studio !

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/vv316/volvosmoker/BV1002.jpg

This is the current TG studio area,I took this pic whilst still on nightshift (poss very early 90’s) with a visiting Tucano,ex Distillers Ltd company comms Jetstream WWW (whisky whisky whisky),a varied selection of FRS2’s,GR5’s and at the far end we had the Hunter T8 ‘trials/chase a/c and HS125 ZF130 which had a Sea Harrier blue vixen radar/nose and also a SH stick/HUD etc in place of the normal RH pilot seat

(ZF130 pic here…

One of the Mclaren painted Hawk 200’s (sept 1998 ?) in the east end of the Flight Shed,Note the Harrier A/C weighing equipment built in to the floor, this made weight/C of G calcs a doddle for test flights !!

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/vv316/volvosmoker/img034.jpg

The Eastern T2 Hangar circa 2005 – apparently this has non standard extra bracing as part of the support structure,as you can see in comparison – the Flight Shed had been completely replaced…the internal structure much more modern

This pic courtesy Mac Mcormick of a brand new Indonesian Hawk being rolled out of the eastern main production shed,in the background is the spray shop/old TG studio, the entrance doors can be seen behind the fin…

I could not find the pics I took inside the old Flight Shed in 2005,but I took this pic in the south west corner of the Hangar !circa 1999 This area definitely visible during TG !

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/vv316/volvosmoker/1127Dunsfold1999.jpg

This pic I took in the east end of the Old Flight Shed (rebuilt T2)
The top gear studio is behind me (the Hangar was partitioned) pic taken 2005 when we were invited to take XX154 to WingsnWheels to celebrate 154’s 21st anniversary of her first flight…she was parked in the Hangar next to a visiting Harrier and surrounded by very expensive supercars 😀

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/vv316/volvosmoker/DSCF0657.jpg

I have this pic captioned as the last T8 out of Dunsfold…taken from the Flightline as she does a low pass by the Flight Shed !!

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/vv316/volvosmoker/LastT8outofDunsfold.jpg

Some years later … On the day that the Vimy flew out of Dunsfold for the last time – a rainbow over the old Main Production Hangars – with the Eastern T2 Hangar in the distance !

Hi All,
MoggyC I wasn’t suggesting you shuffle the responsibility onto others merely suggesting if it got to much for your self indeed any other mod then why not take it in turn ? if this is not possible then you are correct you don’t have an option, why is it embarrassing after all the posts are for the most part personal opinions of what has transpired so far, while I agree that some posts are unwarranted bordering on personal insults is not good to have debate ? I know that your moderating must drive you up the wall from time to time and I for one would not dare to entertain such work (Not being of the Interlectual minded :highly_amused:) I can only offer my thanks for the work you do on mine and the forumites .

Trust me, none of the moderators are remotely interested in the frankly embarrassing Burma thread, so no, there is no option to shuffle off the responsibility onto others.

Also we are spread across timezones so effectively work in shifts around the clock.

Hi All,
MoggyC,You are correct in what you say about not knowing your job,I like you have the same base interest’s and I would agree that repetition does get tedious showing lack of originality and possible insult to the veiwers ?but you do have to remember that there will be new veiwers amongst the throng of regulars so as the viewer you have the option like you have done to make some coffee etc. etc.
As for the forum content I was trying to point out that what we find as being a hobby, interesting, informative, enjoyable etc.etc.other’s would find boring and uninteresting like I am sure you find other peoples interest boring, brain numbing, why bother etc.etc. in other words we shouldn’t castigate someone for a different outlook on their life because of what they have an interest in or the way they see fit to steer their life like the Spit saga two different outcomes will happen either buried or not buried despite the obvious outcome from the wargaming team.
As a mod though you say you do not have the option of not reading that thread if you find it hard cannot you just ask the other mod to do that specific thread until you feel you can judge it fairly again without bias ?.

What is put on this and other forums could be classed as boring to some, depends on your point of view and what your into

As a relative newcomer you possibly don’t realise that my day job, such as it is, is in the motor industry.

As such I maintain an interest in cars, bikes and all things automotive.

So when a repetitive version of “Last of the Summer Wine with caravans” is aired, forgive me if I am not welded to my seat watching.

I do try and watch one episode a series to see if it has regained any interest, but it is inevitably very hard going and I tend to wander off and make a lot of coffee.

Not sure what it has to do with forum content, except I would probably prefer to watch Top Gear than read the Burma thread ever again. Regrettably I don’t have that option.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that left over from a bond film? I forget which one

I was intrigued by the 747 having its engines twin podded and replacing the outer engine mounts with slipper tanks. what was that about?

As for Top Gear, I have not much interest in cars, I just watch it for the comedy, love some of the races they do in the most ridiculous vehicles :’)

Half the fun of watching is to see what’s on the airfield. I was intrigued by the 747 having its engines twin podded and replacing the outer engine mounts with slipper tanks. what was that about?

Whatever it was, I can guarantee it will be less boring than Top Gear.

Moggy

Hi All,
What is put on this and other forums could be classed as boring to some, depends on your point of view and what your into admitted T/G has lost it’s way a bit but to the viewers and those who are petrol heads it isn’t just accept it for what it is another TV programme like it or lump it.
