Aviation Forums – where do you go?

Apart from here, Planetalk, PPrune, WIX and UKAR, what other Forums are popular and why?

Yes, Pprune had intermittent problems yesterday due to some server updates.

Think PPRuNe dropped off t’internet for a while the other day – I couldn’t get on (and haven’t tried since!).

Don’t have that much time for forums at the mo unfortunately.

Thanks GA, I’m able to see it again. It vanished for me earlier with a 404 not found error. I hadn’t been on for a while so wondered if it had gone away.

It’s still where it usually is.

I was on there less than half an hour ago.

Anyone know where PPRune has vanished to? I can’t find it anymore.

Thanks

As well as occasionally posting on here (obviously), I also use PPRuNe.

www.avcom.co.za must be one of the best. Also enjoy Military photos. Agree about Pprune aviation history section – very unfriendly. Also enjoy Flyer forums and WIX.

I can’t vouch for the others, but my impression of the Aviation History forum on PPRUNE is that it is very much a closed club; several posters have been banned or chased-away for questioning the inherited wisdom of the elders.

I do check that forum on a daily basis but unfortunately if one isn’t known on the inside for having served in Aden or on the V-force then little courtesy appears to be extended, which is a shame given the amount of cumulative knowledge therein.

My thruppence.

Could’nt agree more, it is worse than a clique.

Apart from the issues mentioned above, I find that Pprune’s Historical section is simply a bit slow – there’s not much happens in there.

Planetalk and others are good, friendly places. There’s also a few small and specialist places such as the Flying Boat forum – it is small but populated with a very enthuasiatic and friendly bunch.

I post on Luchtzak and have done since 2003. Great Belgian coverage there, which is what attracted me in the first place.

Because of the Biaggi thread I have taken an increasing interest in the French language forums. I’m managing to read stuff ok but not confident enough to post yet.

Just post in English and write IN BLOCK CAPITALS!!……:D

Have you used ‘Babelfish’ ? not perfect, but a good tool. I have bought and sold a French farm using it ( and bought stuff off French ebay etc) As you, I can pretty much read French but not compose, this will help you to do so.

cheers

Active on Pprune, despite (or perhaps because of) one really irritating knowitall who carries a considerable chip on his shoulder over the loss to the Army of some of his beloved airfields. Airfields which would otherwise have become trading- or housing estates.

Also active on Arrse, where there are a few good aviation-related threads.

…and after writing that missive against PPRUNE I completely forgot to mention Brit Modeller, which is fairly low-volume but has a core of knowledgeable and very helpful chaps including several who post interesting gen from the sandy places.

I personally don’t like the look of PPRUNE, UKAR or WIX so haven’t joined.

I use Planetalk and am a member of AIX, RAF Commands, World War Two Talk forum and will probably join Twelve O’Clock High. I also use the Great War Forum when the two interests collide.

I personally don’t like the look of PPRUNE, UKAR or WIX so haven’t joined. Because of the Biaggi thread I have taken an increasing interest in the French language forums. I’m managing to read stuff ok but not confident enough to post yet.
