Aviation Fuel Tax

I am just wondering what people’s views are on this subject, given that aviation is the only form on transport that doesn’t have a fuel tax – does that give it an unfair advantage? Or do the benefits outweigh the revenue from tax? I know it’s something the train & ferry operators have always felt strongly against.
