Aviation Museums – pros and cons

Seeing that comments have been made in another thread…that went off topic, I thought I would start one here, by starting off by stating my experiences.

I go way back to the formation of DUX. I ended up Engineering Director of the East Anglian Aviation Society – from where I quit, due to allegations of theft being placed against me AND my wife! Another Director ended up in police cells due to unfounded allegations from within!

I sat on BAPC for a while… indeed, along with David Lee I organised the G-DASH conference at Cosford a few years back.

I’m in two minds about Museums – yes, we need them but boy if you are not very VERY careful it is so easy to get burned and burned bad.

Small ones can be bad – but so can the larger – what are called ‘Nationals’ within BAPC. It’s a case of ‘member or helper beware – especially when items are put on loan! (for gawds sake get proper documentation and check regularly that they still have what you loaned them – people in ‘positions of power’ change!)

Any yes, before anyone says it – there are good ones! (waving to the folks at Old Warden!)
