I like the idea of a cat called Shackleton. Can’t think why. Of course, you could have called one of your current ones ‘AEW II’, the only proper follow-on to a Shack. Probably get overruled on that one as well though.

I used to have a cat called Shackleton, wanted to call one of our current ones Nimrod, but was overruled!
Which is a real pity, given that Nimrod means “mighty hunter” – what more could your moggy have wanted?

I have wanted to call one of our cats ‘Belvedere’ but get over-ruled each time.
There was a Droopy cartoon with the catchphrase ‘Belvedere, come here boy!’, which I thought had a nice ring to it….others don’t agree for some reason 🙁

In fact our most recent pooch was Wellington – but after the general, however the first Wellington had to go back to the kennels as the poor sod couldnt be pet insured as he had a heart defect, so a second wellington arrived….known of course as MKII Wellington….

Worse thing they can do is use the litter box when you have visiters and what they leave can only be removed with the use of an NBC suit or sold off as a new terror weapon!
Or worse, sit in the litter box and go over the side……

I think that this thread proves that aviators are mainly cat people:
Slightly aloof, independantly minded and like to sit in front of warm fires eating fine food! 😀
And with a tendency to lick their cobblers at inopportune moments? 😮
I’ll get me coat…

We have no pets yet due to landlord issues, but at the soonest possible opportunity we are likely to get two Cocker Spaniels which will be called ‘Lieutenant Parsons’ (afer the character in Those Magnificent Men) and ‘Snackleton’ – this last discovered when I was holding the box for a kit of Avro’s finest with my thumb inadvertantly over the upright of the ‘h’, which my wife thought was hilarious.

Too right.
Harvey and Mr Warwick came from Wood Green Animal shelter, just to the West of Duxford. When I first saw him Harvey was on the roof of the pen watching the Classic Wings Tiger Moths. 🙂
Moggy
Ahhh, the Wood-Green specials! I had a 12 year old tabby with no teeth from Heydon, as well as a pair of feral kittens that had had no human contact until they were 7 weeks old.
Over the past 14 years we also had rescued 2 kittens from the RSPCA in Huntingdon and 2 kittens from a mad Russian woman in Saffron Walden, keeping them in awful conditions.
Alas the 2 feral and the 2 RSPCA kittens got run over, we had to give the old girl back to Heydon when she took exception to our first baby (she was immediately re-homed), and we are left with one 13 year old from the mad russian.
My wife wants a Rag Doll and an Abyssinian later this year…I will have to start thinking of suitable names…..

just because a pet becomes ill or old is no excuse to throw it out with the rubbish,
Too right.
Merlin came from a cats’ home in Cheltenham
Vulcan came from a litter that was headed for the canal
Wellington was stolen from a very unsuitable owner by an ex-girlfriend. It probably saved his life. (All too briefly, he was only about three or four when he was killed)
Biggles was given to me by somebody moving to a home that he couldn’t go to.

Cheers,
Had a cat called Digby, would have been nice if he had been nammed after RAF Digby but he was named after Digby the largest dog in the world! it was a mix up in the names or something, anyway he was found on Foulness ranges dodgeing the shells and bombs inbetween being fed by the base staff, when I got him was told he is very old, has frostbite on his nose, ears, bosseyed excma (scabs) and that he would not last more than 3 months all he wanted was a little bit of love and a secure warm home for the last bit of his life.
He also had a problem about washing himself so… you’ve guessed it had had a regular bath in the sink cats normally hate water but he loved it!
I must be doing something right as he lasted 5years!

Digby gave nothing but love… and dribble lots and lots of dribble
just because a pet becomes ill or old is no excuess to throw it out with the rubbish, people who mistreat animals are some of the lowest of the low, some of the storys I have heard are heartbreaking,
I fosterd a Ginger Tom Cat call willum he’s previous owner used him as a football, he had had his pelcis broken and dumped thankfully he surived and had a good few years whit us knowing nothing but love.

oneOnline, nice pic. Sorry to hear about Gustav’s early demise. Old Fart, very commendable.
