Hello,
Thought I’d try and get a slightly different topic going about aviation related films. Anyobody know of any really great aviation films? There are loads and loads about but they all seem to be about hijackings and rubbish like that.
Has any one of you seen ‘The Langoliers’? It’s a sci-fi type film by Stephen King. It’s complicated to explain but I’d recommend it to anyone interested in commercial aviation. The star of the film is the Lockheed Tristar, very nice aircraft!

The a/c used in Castaway is an MD-11 – though you’ll see Tom Hanks walking towards and A300 at the airport. You’ll see the centre engine of the MD-11 explode in the water after the plane has crashed, you can also make out the big winglets as the a/c is sinking.

Saab, in Castaway I think the a/c Tom was on was an A300.
My favourite is the most recent one i’ve seen. ‘Pushing Tin’. Its about Air Trafic control and the stresses of being a New York Area controller. It has a lot of different a/c in it and some pretty hairy scenes!

A classic aviation film was Airport from Arthur Hailey’s novel. Another decent film using the L-1011 was the Ghost of flight 401.
Kelly, I saw that film about the crop sprayer being delivered and the airliner going out looking for it. I think it had Scott Bakula in it but I can’t remember what it was called. (BTW does anyone else think he’s brilliant as Capt. Archer in Enterprise.)

Castaway was a good film. The special effects were great and the plane crash was brilliant (the way it was done I mean).
I wonder if FedEx actually deliver parcels which are involved in plane crashes and soaking wet?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-03-02 AT 07:41 PM (GMT)]Anyone remember Castaway with Tom Hanks? He was travelling on a Fedex DC-10 which crashed into the Pacific in a storm. The scenes were quite funny seeing the engines blowing up in the water!

I bought it on video after seeing the Langoliers at about 2:00 in the morning on ITV once – incredibly tacky but I love it!

“Biggest darned Cessna I ever saw!”
Said by a police officer in Passenger 57 when the L1011 lands at that small airport.

Almost forgot – I’ve seen the Langoliers and I quite enjoyed it. The airport used in the film was Bangor, Maine USA. The ending scene with the L-1011 taking off and the airport being eaten is totally weird!!

What about Passenger 57, starring Wesley Snipes? It’s a load of crap, but there are some good shots of the L-1011!!!

Although it is yet again about hi-jacking, I actually really like Air Force One. Delta Force is good also. I find the whole series of ‘Airplane’ movies to be totally ridiculous. “Put on the co-pilot”, so they get out an inflatable man.
