What type of movies would u guys recommend, which has commercial aviation included (excluding “Catch me if you can”)?
Especially 60’s and 70’s movies would be of interest.
And don’t say “Airplane!” 😀

Airport 80 with Concorde (Bit of trivia: The Concorde used for the film is the one that crashed).
Ohh i didn’t know that!
Also…
Joe Patroni, TWA Spanner monkey (Mechanic) to concorde captain within 10 years?…Whats all that about!
The Right Stuff was an aviation movie of some sort, Also that Jody Foster movie which was loosely based on an A380 when her daughter goes missing.
There is also that made for Tv movie, about the Air Canada “Gimli Glider”

Miracle Landing is the film based on the Aloha 737 that they converted in to a convertible mid flight.

‘Out of the Clouds’. Set at London Airport in the late 50s starring BOAC Stratocruisers and Constellations, BEA Viscounts and Elizabethans, Pan Am DC6/7s, KLM Convairs. Plenty of real ramp shots including Strat engine runs and a fantastic reproduction of the original terminal. Its in colour with a great British cast, made by Ealing Studios and now available on DVD. IMO it doesn’t get much better than this. Also ‘Cone of Silence’ which centres on design faults with an early British airliner. The aircraft concerned looks like the Canadian Jetliner. A clever plot line and again some big British cast members. 🙂
Agreed..a very good movie with James Robertson Justice and Anthony Steele digitally remastered on DVD

The classic “airline” movies have already been mentioned…
A few others worthy of consideration:

Ooh, I think I recently caught the tail end of that movie, just as the engine failure kicks off. Excellent flick.

Bullitt
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullitt
Bullitt isn’t an aviation movie but it has quite a bit of footage taken on the ramp/runways of SFO with plenty of old jets moving around. There is even a scene on a Pan Am 707 which is great to see for the old uniforms and interior shots. Beyond the aviation nerd stuff it’s a great movie with one of the best (if not THE best) car chase scene.

No Highway in the Sky….a very good film.
Fate is the Hunter…a fair/pretty good/ occasionally great film that has nothing to do with Gann’s excellent book.
One I’ve never seen…
The Pilot with Cliff Robertson about a pilot with a drinking problem,
And if you can find it Three Guys Named Mike is a bit of (very period) fun about a flight attendent with American Airlines Convairs in the early 50s.

not sure what it called but there is an old black and white bristish film, maybe 1930s maybe 1950s about an airliner with its cockpit in the tail, think the film was based on structural failure topic
By: Bmused55 - 17th March 2010 at 14:26
oh, good one!

I mentioned this one in a previous thread only a couple of weeks ago, but Executive Decision with Kurt Russell and Steven Segall in it.:D

Airport 75 – Piper versus 747… epic
Airport 77 – The Aquatic 747
Airport 80 with Concorde (Bit of trivia: The Concorde used for the film is the one that crashed)
Passenger 57 is ok for L1011 fans.
Stephen King’s The Langoliers has an L1011 feature prominently in it too.
Cast Away features some Fed Ex traffic in the first half and a wee bit at the end too.
A Thousand Heroes – TV Movie about United 232’s crash landing.
