I’m headed over for my third visit in 8 years. Looks like I’m going to hit the big museum in Berlin that was just in Flypast. I’ve seen Sensheim and Speyer, won’t be in the Munich area, but between Dusseldorf and Berlin in the north central part of the country. Is there anything else in that area? It’s also time for a few more laps around the Nurburgring and some more seat time on the Autobahn. I posted this on WIX, but I guess nobody there has been to Germany. They don’t know what they are missing. Ok somebody here must have, because it’s a neighbor!

The museum at Laatzen, near hannover is well worth a look.
as is the small museum at Witmund, it’s on an active base though so you have to call ahead.

Thanks for the replies. Have been to Sensheim and Speyer and won’t be in that area this trip. This trip it will be Berlin, I am already going there for a concert by Ritchie Blackmore at Spandau Castle. Sensheim and Speyer are really awesome, everything but the kitchen sink museums with more than just airplanes, there are trains, cars, clothes, organs, you name it. I didn’t know about Hermeskiel, Ill make a note of it for the visit after this one. Thanks!

Peter Junior’s excellent but very crowded museum Flugausstellung Junior – near Hermeskeil. Down Stuttgart way.
I haven’t been there for some years now but they have the only complete Canberra B(I)8 airframe in the whole of Europe – XM246. Loads of Soviet airframes (jets and helicopters), and a He111 as I recall.
Their cafe is in a full size mock-up Concorde.

There are two museums in between Frankfurt and Stuttgart called Sinsiem and Speyer which are run by the same people. You will need a day each because they are MASSIVE !

2 weeks ago, I went to the Deutsches Technik Museum, at the invitation of their director, Prof Dr Dr Steinle.
Its well worth a visit, if you can actually stretch to Berlin itself. They have done a huge amount of work to build an aircraft department from scratch, and have some very interesting, not to say unique exhibits.
If you are in Berlin, you must also visit Tempelhof. We had an aerial tour of the city on the Lufthansa Ju52, which was well worth doing as well.
The sheer scale of the buildings at Tempelhof need to be seen to be believed. Fascinating stuff!
