Indeed, some of his editorials through the late 1930s make uncomfortable reading now. Yes, there were others who held similar views but thankfully they were a very small minority and most ran for cover, or where pushed aside, when war broke out. While CGG handed over editorship he continued to write for Aeroplane and published books, but in a (slightly) moderated tone. It is interesting that his obituaries tended to speak of how kind and generous he was if you knew him in person, a worrying indication of how a winning personality can disguise less savoury convictions. The same was true for Oswald Mosely. If you are interested this gives good insight

I bought an Aeroplane issue dated in the 37-38 range and was surprised how much respect and even awe Grey showed towards Hitler. He also spoke in racial overtones. Of course this was more acceptable then than now – must remember history in the context of the mores of the times.

Would it have anything to do over C G Grey being forced to resign in 1940 because of his pro Facist leanings.

Grey actually stepped down/resigned in August 1939, small detail but worth noting that it was pre-war. As I understand it the reason that Aeroplane is not available online is a combination of uncertainty as to who owns copyright and cost to get the archive scanned
