Avro Abundance

So far I have only posted about one Avro picture. Here are a few more.

1 Vulcan B2 XH536 at Farnboro
2 Lincoln B2 RF398
3 Lancaster
4 York C1
5 Anson Xii NL179 coded FCV-U of EFS probably taken in 1946
6 Shackleton MR2 WR954 coded V of 38 squadron in Malta? I have a Seahawk and a Valetta taken at the same time. Anyone any ideas when and where exactly?

Shackletons

The 38 Sqn Mk.2 looks like it is at Culdrose to me, very familiar background etc.
The next MR.3 is definately Mawgan on the Northern loop, the last MR.3 looks like Kinloss, but that is going off the landscape and E type curved hangar, and the fact 120 Sqn were based there.
The last Shack is indeed the ETPS Naval Test Squadron MR.2 used for a variety of tests from Farnborough, where it is pictured near the fatigue testing water tank.

Lovely pics. Especially love the one of the Avro 707, not a machine one frequently sees photos of.

Vulcan XA890 belonged to RAE Farnborough, and the shot was taken at Abingdon’s Battle of Britain show in September 1963. I must have been standing next to the photographer, because my shot looks eerily similar!

I think RF398 picture was taken at RAF Henlow looking at the background. It was stored there from 1963 (after its last flight) then appeared in the static at the Abingdon review in ’68 and finally ended up at Cosford. I have a slide of it when at Henlow.

The flying boat behind the 707 is a Supermarine Seagull.

Nice pics, what’s the high-winged aircraft with what appear to be contra-rotating props behind the 707B?

Excellent photos Glyn. As an ex Chadderton apprentice, I really appreciate them. I only recently learnt that Avros paid for the lamp posts to be hinged between Chadderton, where the Vulcan centre section was made, and Woodford for final assembly so they could be transported by road in the early hours.

I do not know what happened there but the photos have loaded in reverse order to the captions! Not the order I uploaded them.

Thanks Glyn,
The Shackleton MR.3 looks like St.Mawgan and I would guess the MR.2 is at Changi.

Yes Albert it is, this was on the far side of the airfield nearest to St Mawgan village. The pic is a dead give away due to the black hut and crewroom, we only used that side of the airfield when repair was being undertaken around the dispersal area.

2 Vulcan B2 XM646
3 Vulcan B2 XH559
4 Lancaster coded P note starboard outer engine. Is this a Griffin or possibly a Python?

Thanks Glyn,
I usually like to try and identify the locations and dates, but am only able to do so on one of these. The first shot of Vulcan B.1A XH479 could easily fool viewers into thinking this was an operational shot in the mid-60s. Alas no, both the Vulcan and Provost in this photo at ground instructional airframes at Halton and I guess this photo would be around 1968, as the Vulcans were scrapped there in 1972. The Shackleton MR.3 looks like St.Mawgan and I would guess the MR.2 is at Changi.

The York is MW100/G-AGNV taken at Staverton with the Skyfame Collection. Looking at the condition of the paintwork, I would say around 1970-71 before it was moved to Cosford

Vulcan XH536 was flying at the SBAC Show in 1959 (the year before I made my first and only visit!)
