Just been cleaning up an Anson passengerseat and been trying to see what variants they were used on.
There appear to have been a couple of designs of Anson passenger seat.
The seat without headrest.

The square back.

I have one similar to the headrest version. Was this specific to the C19 or in use elsewhere ?

Yes I can’t see the point of the full depth backplate. The headrest tube on mine is cracked right through so I can see how the tubes came to be cut off.
I don’t know if the blue paint is a clue here?

Thanks Smirky – earlier (?) curved tube base plus cut off headrest tubes with the back plate running all the way down.
The back plate on mine stops at the seat back level.
Perhaps an interim design ?
An ambitious price for one with that much corrosion and knackered cushions.

Hi Brian, I’m wonder if your last link at post #1 is an image of a Dove. Please compare
Martin
Ooops! Sorry Gipsy 1! Thanks Laurence!

Gipsy 1 sorry about the Dove – problem with the google image search – even with quotes it tries to be too helpful. Just looked at the cockpit door – should have spotted that straight away…
So were headrests on the Anson only post war? The Spitfire spares machine was a mk 21 and also had these.
The seat I have came from the Wirral.

No, our seat is very different, with a square back and fixed armrests. I may have to investigate it, for the first time

Brian, the ‘square back’ seat photo you have posted is a Dove.

Wulfie: Here is another photo of the C19 at Sharjah I mentioned in my post 2, above, to show the backs of the crew seats. This happens to be a dual control Anson, as you can see. Is your seat like these? They seem to have a lower back that the passengers’, but no arm rests.

That’s interesting. We have a seat in the Tettenhall Transport Heritage Centre which was claimed to be an Anson seat when it was given us, but looks nothing like any of those. Maybe it is a crew seat. It has a low back and arm rests.
Anon, if you’re reading this, and I bet you are, I’ve just this second remembered that John Hoole has an Anson rear fuselage frame in one of his sheds. He has been threatening to make it into a play house for his kids, but is open to suggestions

Yes, I noticed that, but as my photo does not show the bases that well I was not sure. I suppose it depends when the last mods (ie seat changes) were done in each aircraft.

Thank you Laurence.
I also note that the base structure also changes – from the stylish curved tube design to the angular cross brace,

I can’t answer your question as such, but the last Anson I was inside was C19, exTX183 and G-BSMF, at the Al Mahatta Museum in Sharjah. Its seats look like the “without headrest” you illustrate. Photo below:
