Avro Athena and Ashton

Has anyone found some colour pics of either the Athena T Mk 1 or T Mk 2 or the Ashton?

Andyxh558,

Whereabouts at woodford was the canopy frame? And how much of it was there? I take it’s in the heritage centre?

Cheers,

Since they were all SOC and/or sold for scrap in the early/mid 1950s its doubtful if any actually survived as far as the 60s, except maybe on a dump or in a scrapyard somewhere. Since its successful competitor is also pretty rare, and the way the losing bid nearly always disappears, its hardly surprising there are none left.

I’d be pretty sure no Athena, or substantial parts thereof, has survived.

I noted there were a pair of ‘distressed’ wings in a scrap yard along side an aircraft I was recovering in the early 1970’s in Warrington. They puzzled for a time but the general consensus was that they came from an Athena. Perhaps a chance missed, perhaps not.

You live and learn. I always thought it was a Sea Balliol.
