I am currently building a small flying model of an Avro Lancaster. One of the things I have noticed is that the exhaust gas stains on the outer engines do not both go over the top of the wing. Can anyone advise me as to whether the exhaust stains the underside of the wing as well ?

Thanks

I can see now where the exhaust gasses leave their mark.
Many thanks to 92fis and all.

The outer exhausts do leave a stain on the wing if you look at my pic (you may have to save it and then view it larger). The stain starts close to where the engine joins the wing compared to the other exhausts which start slightly further from the engines.

Due to dihedral I guess the outboard, outer exhausts are lower relative to the wing leading edge than the rest and the airflow takes the gases below the wing.
I think you are right, but does it leave a grey stain on the underside ?
The model by the way is 90″ span, has 4 x 5cc four stroke motors, fully functional u/c & flaps and will weigh around 15lbs.

Lancaster exhaust
The only picture I could find that clearly shows the exhaust stain underneath (at least for the inboard engine) is this detail of VM703 with Ghosts fitted outboard.
The stain sweeps downwards back from the exhaust along the side of the necelle and possibly extends into the small wing area behind the nacelle too, although it seems to be heading downwards rather more than backwards.

This is the only picture i can find that shows any effects of the exhaust underneath. I hope this is of some help.

I would imagine the stains would go under the wings to but i have just had a look through my lancaster referance photos and have not noticed it but i may be wrong.

You might get more info on the modelling/R/C page.
Nice looking Lanc by the way.
Is it electric?
