Hi all
This fitting belongs to a relative of a crew member lost in a Manchester over Belgium, and is from that aircraft.
I am guessing it is an oxygen bayonet fitting.
Is this correct, and is it possible to narrow it down to certain locations in the aircraft, or are they all the same type? I would hazard a guess that the Lancaster has the same equipment.
Stores Ref is 6D83
Many thanks

Yes, and they are located in the various stations in the fuselage for the crew to be able to breathe while on their way from the nose to the tail and vice versa in flight. It’s a standard fitting as they were also found in Halifaxes and Wellingtons that I know of for sure.
These fittings were later replaced by a sort of spring loaded device.
Cheers

As you thought it is a fitting from the oxygen system where an air line with bayonet fitting could be attached.
